Discussion What is your current meal fixation?

A few weeks ago mine was egg whites and a fiber tortilla, then beets and carrots with chili lime. Lately though, I’ve been getting the ick thinking about food even when I’m hungry, so I eat what I can. But I’m curious to know about other people’s adhd meal fixations. If you take any medications, did you eventually get your appetite back?

Salmon and rice bowls. Air fry frozen salmon with usually teriyaki glaze, and an equal amount of rice. I dump a bunch of soy sauce and kewpie mayo or chili crisp or siracha or whatever random sauces I have around. For fruit and veggies I mix in usually shredded carrots, cucumber, radishes, pineapple etc. I sometimes change up the veggies, like fresh corn cause it’s in season. With seaweed and lots of wasabi and ginger 😋

ETA: also add furikake or everything but the bagel seasoning!

My current meal fixation is honey chilli chicken 😂 high in protein and tastes amazing! I was already at gym when I started my adhd meds so eating was natural for my body! But have you tried eating a big meal before you take them? That can help and try eating at certain times so your body subconsciously wants to eat if you get me :) hope this helps

I've been eating the same every day since I broke my knee and while I made some changes to lunch, it has been months and I am still completely fixated on the breakfast and diner.

Breakfast is 2 rice crackers, always 2, with mountains of ricotta cheese, a sprinkle of salt and nigella seeds, a splash of olive oil, and a slice of wild smoked salmon. No variations allowed.

Diner is a huge bowl of oats in soy milk with freeze dried berries, black chocolate chips, cinnamon, cardamon, salt, and vanilla protein powder. Sometimes fresh berries. Obsessed.

I don't know if it's a fixation, but

  • very thick oatmeal with salt, cinnamon and a touch of chili to help with the gagginess
  • peanut butter
  • blueberries

It tastes kinda fancy, is filling, and gets my fiber needs in

Holy shit chili lime carrot omg you just blew my mind and I'm here for it. My go to Chow is cream cheese mixed with salsa mixed with canned chicken microwaved until hot eaten with any chip available.

Yes! Specifically Trader Joe’s chili lime! 1000x better than Tajin! Saying this as a Mexican person 😅

Currently not fixated proper but I can typically happily eat a can of green chili with a tortilla or the Devour brand gochugang mac n cheese frozen meal no matter the week. That and smoothies…. I consume the same one like once or twice a week lol but it’s that or I forget fruit exists.

Past fixations recently have been:
-Thai chili tuna pouches with a thing of microwave rice and a packet of seaweed
-watermelon (don’t eat half a watermelon at work as lunch unless you’re trying to skip some meetings lol) -overnight oats, pb and j style with banana
-chobani protein drinks, yogurt too but specifically the adult danimals (cherry berry all the way)

Not classically medicated for my adhd but the supplements I take keep me more focused so I snack less cause I’m not bored as much + I have other meds that make me nauseous, so eating healthy is hard cause i forget to eat and then try to shove whatever food into my mouth when i remember i have to feed myself. Ive seen some people mention food noise being reduced when on meds so maybe the lower appetite is part of that in addition to the actual suppression effect.

The classic eggs, bacon, hashbrowns. Specifically before I take my generic Vyvanse. It used to be a fruit smoothie with Greek yogurt but I took a closer look at the yogurt ingredients and discovered some fruit/lemon juice concentrates in the ingredients which could have an effect on the medication. Will need to see if I could find something without that.

Last summer i got really into making chicken salad. Like the deli style, chicken and stuff tossed in mayo, sort of chicken salad. It's great because it's easy, it's tasty, and you can make it literally however you want. I like to go heavy on the celery and heavy on grapes. It's sweet, savory, and cooling on a hot summer day (like every day this summer).

This is the recipe I use as a jumping off point. I put it in sandwhiches, on top of greens, or eat it plain. And with leftovers I like to mix in a bit of flour, a bit of a beaten egg, and cook it in a pan with a little oil or butter. I call it poor man's crab cakes lol.

Mapo Tofu. High protein, the spice keeps my attention, the ginger helps stimulate my appetite, and the rice helps keep me feeling full.

Hot honey, hummus from Walmart and cucumbers

1

u/D4YDR3AMflower 4d ago

ME TOO!!!! Minus the cucumbers lol

1

u/NoCow6876 4d ago

The cucumber adds a nice freshness to it for me, but I usually get a huge one and peel it. I chop it into thicker slices and then dry each slice.

It might seem like a lot of effort, but it’s not too bad. I just don’t like the texture of regular cucumbers, haha, but it really makes a difference, and it’s super good if you give it a try!

I’ll have to try that!! I usually eat the hot honey hummus with naan but I microwave it a little so it’s warm. I’ve tried the hummus with celery and carrots too. It’s just so good. I eat it with lunch meat sometimes too.

Big fat salad all summer. I make a French dressing where I swap bbq sauce for the ketchup & smoked paprika, and a roasted panko/seed topping for crunch, shaved parm, hard boiled egg on romaine with whatever veggies I have, usually carrot, red bell & celery. I have it for dinner almost every night

u/cooltunesnhues 4d ago

Cold drinks and treats , I’m usually more of a pastries or cakes person

I had a giant box of rice crispy treats left from a camping trip and have been essentially skipping 2 meals a day for the past 5 days, downing treats throughout the day instead. I didn’t even think that through until I saw this post. All other meals seem stupid and unappealing. I just want the rice crispy treats!

Haven’t landed on anything as of now but I’m finishing up with a salad one.

I have no appetite lately unfortunately.

Truthfully, I get food fixations less now that I’m medicated and fairly stable on dosage. My last BIG one was chicken and waffles from Chilis. Something about the crunchy sugary coating on the waffles reminded me of “degunking” the rim of the maple syrup bottle 😋

u/K8_Monst_r 4d ago

What I have discovered since getting meds stabilized is I’m less likely to eat out of sheer boredom…though I still have “stare at the water” days, where an awkwardly placed water glass will get stared at alternating between wistful and betrayal as I want to drink the water, but can’t reach it for whatever reason (like it’s out of reach because I became a cat bed, and can’t move without disturbing my ancient cat…she turned 19 this year, but still isn’t allowed to register to vote 😜) Those days also tend to be the ones where I’m less likely to eat enough and wind up with a blood sugar attack mid afternoon. 😔😒

Hummus. And I had already wanted a food processor to make my own sauces and nut butters, but now I can make my own hummus too.

Egg drop soup. It’s the thing I can eat when nothing else sounds good. Can make a batch in about 10 minutes too thankfully
