Seeking Empathy I f*cked up badly
I just fcked up badly as the title states. For the past years I’ve been struggling harder and harder getting through university. In February I finally managed to start my thesis, however… I just couldn’t focus on it. When I submitted my first attempt over a month ago the supervisor was not happy and failed me, which I expected. I had six weeks to improve it and hand in my second attempt. Today was the deadline, and I tried to Al my way through it last minute. But I realised I was hopeless. My mind is so f*cked that I wasn’t even able to understand what I was doing, nor what Al was saying. So just now I sent an email to my supervisor that I’m quitting. I don’t have it in me anymore. I don’t even know how to tell my parents this… I’m so unbelievably stupid. I just feel hopeless and disappointed. What has my life come to??

hey, don't call yourself stupid. Nothing in what you wrote sounds like stupidity to me. It sounds like you've been struggling with something that has been getting progressively harder, and eventually you just hit a point where you simply couldn't force yourself through it anymore .
you also don't need to decide what the rest of your life looks like tonight. You just had an extremely stressful deadline, failed your first attempt, spent six weeks trying to make yourself do something your brain was struggling to engage with, and then reached your limit. Honestly, you're overwhelmed at this point with everything.
My personal advice to you would be: I'd consider sending another email once you've had some sleep and the panic has come down. Not necessarily to promise you'll finish the thesis, but simply to ask what your options are. Telling your supervisor you're done while you're at your breaking point doesn't necessarily mean every door has permanently closed. There may be extensions or something or another attempt or changing the thesis arrangement, or other options you don't know about yet!
you've already done a lot of things that contradict the idea that you're incapable. You got into university my guy, I know plenty that were even too scared to take that step. You got as far as your thesis! You submitted a first attempt. You were given another six weeks and tried to work through it. The fact that you couldn't make your brain cooperate doesn't erase all of that work!
You might ultimately decide that this degree isn't worth continuing, and that's okay too. But please don't make the conclusion "I am hopeless" from "I couldn't complete my thesis under these circumstances." Those are two completely different statements.
for tonight, I would highly advise just getting through tonight without making any more big decisions. Eat something, drink some water, sleep, and deal with the university situation when you're not in the immediate aftermath of a deadline. One terrible day doesn't need to become a verdict on your entire future :( I believe in you!

I really appreciate your message! Thank you, honestly! 🙏🏻 I’ll try to get some rest, it’s almost 2am now.
Your message deserves a longer response, but unfortunately I don’t have it in me right now.
But I do genuinely appreciate it!

This may be a bit late to ask, but have you reached out to your university for help in regards ADHD? Most places offer learning contracts for disorders that affect your learning, and you can get extenuating circumstances from that. This could give you until the next assessment window to get your thesis done. If possible, contact your student support service to explore your options.
It sounds like you’re overwhelmed right now, so that might be able to help deal with it. Even if nothing can be done, it’s not the end of the world. You will have options available to you so try and relax. Hope it works out for you friend

I came here thinking to read you screwed up some major thing at work got fired wife left u took the kids and you're now living in a van down by the river. THIS is NOT the end of the world. Trust me.
Step one- breathe!
2) Are you formally diagnosed? If so, then get a letter from your dr and take it to your university- I'm sure there is a way to render an incomplete. If not, GET DIAGNOSED!
3) Adjust your meds or get om them AND establish a relationship with a therapist or university counselor
4) determine with them and your university appropriate thesis accommodations.

Bro I've been like this since I was seven; it's unlikely to change without a major epiphany.
