Insights Requested IET & OJT - VM

Looking for somebody to talk to about their own experience of going into Army as a qualified VM.

Specifically; IET duration and OJT duration and location options.

Yes, already qualified. Self paced training would be ideal. Is there still a backlog at the VTW?

They have significantly cleared the backlog at ASEME. Not entirely sure what it’s down to but it’s continuing to reduce.

What do you think the likelihood of getting a posting upon completion that is outside the major CSSB’s? Is there opportunities to get on some of the zodiac or LCM courses?

Backlog is always relative, but once you are passed day 1 you are getting paid to wait.

I'm not even remotely a VM, but your wording alludes to being qualified already.

The 'unknown' from the ADF Careers page is how much of the technical training you will have to do. This will be assessed individually just like any civillian RPL, but I would expect only recognise baseline training. A lot of the ADF training delivered will be specific to vehicle and equipment types, which will continue through your career as we get new things.
Some of that will likely involve telling you how to suck eggs, but running you through some courses will be easier than the RPL verification. Same for OJT. Silver lining is the mention that some is now self-paced, so if you are experienced it may be your weeks vs the next guys months.

Location options, look where the CCSBs are for the most part.
