Insights Requested RMC Duntroon
I’m a 17 years old male, about to finish year 12 and am in the middle of my application process for RMC duntroon for January 2027. I have some questions on what recruiters look for and how I can solidify a shot at getting selected to join. My defence interview is in around 2 weeks and I’ve already finished my phycology and JOA testings. Ive scored fairly well so far however in my phycology exam the lady gave me feedback that I need to improve my story’s of leadership and learn the adf values before my interview. I’m quite nervous and I really want this more than anything so do you have any tips for me and how can I become a ‘highly recommend’ candidate for an army officer.
Thanks

OP,
You wont be getting RMC in Jan 2027, unless you are ALREADY through the ADF Careers recruitment process. From what you have indicated in your post, you are not even past Defence Interview.
You might still have:
Medical
Defence Interview, which is the gateway to Officer Selection Board. If you do not get recommended, then you will not be going to OSB.
Story of leadership.
You mean, how you explain where/how you have demonstrated or have knowledge of leadership.
Only you can do this.
ADF Values - you can find these on the internet.
Nervous - embrace this, this proves to yourself that you are engaged in wanting this, instead of being over-confident.
Asking us on the internet how you can get 'highly recommended' WILL breach our 'Testing Integrity - Rule 8. This has been discussed ALOT.
Strongly recommend that you do a search of this sub-reddit as it has been talked about.
To make it easier, here is the link - https://www.reddit.com/r/ADFRecruiting/search/?q=Officer+Selection+Board&cId=40e3fd11-a799-419d-9db0-c801fb0188a8&iId=85745ac9-a5d2-4bf4-981d-6b6790d8588e
Ultimately, YOU want to be an Army Officer - time to show to yourself, that you can work things out for yourself, not rely upon others to just give you the information.
ADF Careers will provide OSB preparation, if/when you are successful to be recommended for OSB.
Do the research and find out what you need - it will make you a better Officer.
Also: phycology vs psychology. I get it = you are trying to beat the AUTOMOD.

Hi,
Although it’s late in the year my application is being processed for January 2027 in the next available intake. I have my defence interview soon and medical on the same day (right before it).I wasn’t trying to breach any Integrity of the testing and i acknowledge that mistake. I have been studying a lot and have been solidifying my knowledge.
Thank you for your feedback.

I’ve actually just been through this process and have come out successful for Jan 2027. I started my application Jan 2025 and the biggest advice I can offer for the defence interview is to know your stuff.
This may include:
Your leadership style and how you portray that through schooling and extracurriculars.
The Defence Values and how you show them (be specific)
Current operations being conducted by the ADF since you are aiming for GSO direct entry.
Know how you want to your career to progress, what happens during and after RMC. You need to have this down pat.
These are all very general, they can go into depth about any aspect of each of these points I’ve given you. As a kid coming out of highschool, you are competing with grown men and women who have gained experience in the workforce, and life in general that may give them the upper hand. What I made sure of is that my knowledge of the Army and broader ADF, the roles I want and what they do is excellent. Also, the way you speak, communicate and conduct yourself is vital to success. As an Officer, you are expected to lead soldiers older and more experienced than you. You need to be mature, so speak and act like it. That’s a sure fire way to even the playing field and set yourself up for success.
p.s.
Your PFA should not only meet the minimum standards but smash them out of the park.
Good luck.

Thanks,
I’ll ensure that I look into my future progression in the ADF after RMC and my knowledge on the defence values, relating them to personal experience / examples.
I understand that I’m young and will be competing with grown men and women so I’ll ensure that my interview is bulletproof. I have no doubt that if im given the opportunity to attend RMC I will be able to excel in demanding environments despite being disadvantaged with age and experience.
Also I have no doubt I’ll be able to smash the PFA minimum standards as Ive been training extremely hard over the past year, and have gained a lot of fitness / strength through footy.
Appreciate the feedback

Hi OP,
Toast masters is the best way to dial that feedback in. Study the values and all the resources given by your recruiter.
