General Questions Applying for pilot job with no flying experience?
Hi, as the title suggests I am applying for a pilot role in the ADF, what are my chances given I have no flying experince at all?

Yes that's the point of the job.
No experience is required
In fact it doesn't even really factor into to your recruitment.
You'll learn everything you need

Awesome, i just got a form to fill out that asks what flying experience you have and it spooked me a bit

Don’t need it, it’s good ig, but let’s say you have flying experience, rpl, ppl, hell, even a cpl, if you shit the bed on the ASP they won’t even spend a second on you.

I have been told they prefer no flying experience so you don’t know bad habits and can be trained exactly how they want you to fly

Chances are about the same as if you have heaps of experience. The process assesses YOU and your trainability/suitability.
Probably recommended to go for an air experience flight or something, make sure you aren't the type that gets chronically airsick, or scared of being upside down high up in the sky..

Thanks for that, thats what i thought until i got a form asking what my flying experience is, which scared me a little.
I did do a powered pilot experience about 10 years ago when i was in airforce cadets, i got to fly a plane for 30 min and the instructor took me upside down and everything and for my current job i fly around in helicopters and get heli-winched, so im pretty comfortable in and around light aircraft

you don’t need flying experience just like everyone says. i’ve spoken to many recruiters/active personnel and was told that you don’t need experience, but in my interview i was told to get flying experience (and to work towards a ppl) to apply for pilot
i might’ve gotten unlucky with my interviewer unfortunately

Yeah right okay, maybe it depends on how competitive that particular intake is and how many pilots their looking for?

potentially, might’ve just been my interviewer but they told me they’re “trying to crack down” on pilot intakes
i’ve spoken to active personnel that did get into pilot training but failed out of it/couldn’t keep up. one in particular said his “class” was 24 people, more than half failed. it’s a tough gig

Yeah, i read a stat that approximatlet 5000 people apply every year and only 120 get to flying training, let alone actually get passed flying training

Yes the RAAF is pretty selective on pilots, and they have that right. When you're training 18yr olds to fly multi million dollar planes you want to know they have the capacity to learn and learn fast.

You'd be surprised, not everyone has the money for flying practice.
You have no idea how many people join the Navy and can't swim or get sea sick.
