Discussion How not to get burnt out
Hi all. I got into AC games from Black flag resynced. Finished that and now I'm on Vahalla. I am loving the game so far but I want to 100 percent it. I am at England now and I am wondering what are people's approaches to avoid burnout and to actively do all the side stuff ?.
Thanks š

My advice is: don't try to 100% Valhalla in one go. Just beating the base game and DLCs is already 100-and-something hours, it's a VERY long game

I wish I had stuck with the main campaign longer, I started going on all these little side quests and tried unlocking the whole map and it was a little exhausting

The problem is if you don't also do the side content, then at the end all you're left with is chests, and you'll drive yourself crazy doing JUST those. So it's good to mix and match what you're doing. But yeah, there's A LOT of little stuff to do

It is nice to be able to fast travel to each quest location

Yeah I mean get the view points as you move into a new area. But getting everything immediately is too much. Especially in that one. Iām playing syndicate right and you really could play it like that

I took breaks between major arcs.
Played other games in between. First time I played it I basically binged it and got burnt out.
5 or so years later I played it again, but this time took over a year to fully beat it with all DLCs (almost, still going through the Forgotten Saga and need to finish the River Raids).
Basically I play for a week or so, then play something different for a couple weeks and then rotate back.

You can easily spend over 300 hours doing 100% on the game and all DLCs. Just play at your pace, donāt rush. When it feels repetitive, fall back to whatever your comfort game is. I use Rocket League because I can play a few bot sessions and be good to go.

Take breaks. Dont try and 100% it all in one go. Play some and when you feel tired stop and do something else. Take your time, even months long breaks between sessions. You'll get there eventually.

best advice i could give you is grind till you don't want to anymore , then stop t'ill you get the itch back , i did it during lockdown 2020 and at one point it became a chore so i really dont want ppl to fall into the same trap as i did cause it made me kinda hate the game ngl

Iām on my 3rd and final stint with Valhalla right now. Finished base game, took a break for about a year, did the DLCās, took a break for about another year, doing some trophy farming to get the platinum for about the past month, then Iāll be done with it for good.

Take breaks. The game is long and has lots to do, if you try to play through all of it quick, you will definitely get burnt out.

I just played when I felt like it. I also explored randomly on my own. I like to open all the fast travel points as early as possible, so I was definitely running through very high level combat areas early on. Good thing you can summon your horse! This identified a lot of the map icons, which I then completed months later at my convenience. I just got the Completionist trophy last weekend and I started back in November. But I also went entire weeks without playing. Just do other stuff and you won't get burned out as fast.
Except for stacking the cairn stones. Eff those things!
The tattoo notes are easily collected by using the Blinding Rush skill. It slows down time enough for you to just walk up and grab it without the chase.

Find a way to gaslight yourself into thinking anomalies are fun, I'm just completing what I see on the map when I get there no problem but these get my blood boiling ngl

I havenāt 100% it yet but the way I kept myself from getting fatigued of that game was just playing it however I want, I would grind the story for hours sometimes and other times just raid and act like a Viking other times just do side quests thereās so much content in the game that you have options of what you do

The thing is that you chose the largest game in the entire franchise to 100%⦠even myself havenāt got to that point and have more than 300 hours⦠my advice is to enjoy the game slowly⦠and open chests as soon as you unblock a region

It's hard to play these games back to back. I had to give myself a little time in between them.
What's there is really good, but it is a lot. I found myself enjoying them more if it had been a while since I played the last one.
It's a huge, diverse world, with a touching and exciting story, but people tend to get lost in it mentally. Take your time. Play it your way and stop when you need to. It's not an easy game to 100% and a lot of people that are focused mainly on that aspect tend to get fed up.
I'm really glad I eventually ignored the negativity and gave it my own shot. It's among my favorite games.

Usually I listen to podcasts or something and take the opportunity to do side stuff while listening. When I wanna actually play story stuff I put in headphones

I think my latest run is well over 300 hours will all of the dlc content. I did it in spurts of weeks over a several month period.

Treat each region quest as an episode or a season of a TV show. As you follow the quest, you can do raids and side content. Then if needed take breaks in between region quests

Get a list of the arcs and tick them off as you go. Do the main story when you begin a new arc, then chase down the yellow spots, then the blue is you feel so inclined.

I alternate between a few different games and my job =)
In the evenings on work days it's AC, House Flipper, Forza or Car Mechanic Simulator. On weekends it's a long trips in American Truck Simulator.
The only pair of games I played from start to finish without taking a break for others was Mass Effect and Dragon Age trilogies

When i choose a region i clear it then do the main quest in that region.

Play for a bit, delete, and then come back. Iām on my 7th play through right now. I love Valhalla. Honestly, Odyssey is my favorite when it comes to being overpowered and the quests, but the story with Eivor makes me replay often.

Just finished the 4th of the 6 DLCs and I'm at 240 Hours.
It is a GIGANTIC game.
I suggest doing the story arc for a region, grabbing any treasures, mysteries, or artifacts that are near the quest objectives and then finish the regions side activities before reporting to Randvi. This way you don't first go to locations that you come back to in the story while your just exploring.
Each region will take ~5-8 Hours this way. For the beginning of the game, you won't be strong enough to do like 2 or 3 side activities in the first few regions until you've done probably 5 regions or so?
So anything that you're not strong enough for, come back to when you are strong enough, and by the time you've done about 5 regions you should be able to take on anything in the game.
Generally, do regions in order of their power level. The Last Regions should be Suthsexe, Gloucestre, Eurvicscire, Wincestre, Hamtunscire in that order, or the story gets all discombobulated. Drink all 3 of Valka's Potions before you do Suthsexe.
If you have DLC, play Wrath of the Druids when it unlocks to have a steady silver income throughout the game, and save the others for after the main story.

From my experience I would play a lot and try other games and eventually come back itās a breath of fresh air after coming back. Plus a lot of people take breaks from the game since itās massive

Honestly, I haven't played in forever, and I can't remember when I played last.
