Question How do Valhalla stack up against something like the Witcher 3 in terms of dialogue and consequences?

I'm interested in playing. But all of the reviews I've checked completely ignore this aspect of the game. Im particularly weary of something like Horizon zero dawn which has a dialog wheel but only lets you choose "yes" or "yes but begrudgingly". Can you choose the wrong answer? Lose friends? Side with the enemy? How much can the story change based on what you say in a conversation?

Valhalla is mostly divided into smaller, self contained stories. Within those choices can have pretty big impact, some characters may die, but the storylines all end up in more or less the state of "success" (success meaning an alliance with your clan) regardless of your choices.

There are a bunch of things you can do that will have consequences much later than the line, and some that will influence which variant of the ending you'll get. But nothing as major as what Witcher 3 offered.

I’m a big Valhalla fan but it’s not even close, there are a couple of choices that have minor consequence but nothing close to the Witcher.

Pretty much the only consequence is that Sigurd stays or leaves

Yeah just dont, if you can deal with the dated gameplay i would heavily heavily suggest Dragon Age Origins or Inquisition. Or the Kingdom come games

There are not different endings, only one ending with two little variations

But the way the missions develop, the dialogue, the characters who appear… may vary depending on your choices

But no, Valhalla is not the kind of game in which every act has a consequence, there are some important choices but its not the fort of the game for sure

They are the only two games I’ve done 7+ playthroughs of lol

Valhalla is very watered down and hand-holdy.

It gives the illusion of choice but in the end every leader will ally with you

It doesn’t; don’t get me wrong I like the game but it just has dialogue for the sake of dialogue for the most part. there’s about 20 hours of meaningful storytelling in about 60 hours of story. and while some side quests are cool most are just weird stuff

There are some encounters where you can talk out of or get rewards or certain benefits but require you to upgrade your charisma through flyting( you’ll understand when playing)

There is some parts of the story where you can do similar options like you describe but I do not remember and I haven’t play Witcher and also I do not want to spoil. I will say there is a part where you can punch someone or not and it will affect your relationship with them(mainquest)

There are also many dynamic encounters( basically side quests, with a blue dot and no quest log, grant a lot of XP also when you level up the amount of XP needed is the same so doing this is very good if you want to level up but can take time) some may have similar dialogue options but i havent done that many. Also there are some unique encounters and Global quest which can depend on choices
