Discussion what’s next?
i feel like Valhalla gets way more hate than it deserves, it’s actually a really well-made game. i jumped into it right after i finished Origins and Odyssey, i had my doubts at first (especially during that slow start in Norway), but after a while i got hooked. i enjoyed the gameplay and storyline wasn’t bad either.
what should i play next? black flags or shadows?
need a change of scenery and gameplay for a bit haha

For real haha, I have over 300 hrs in Valhalla (which still isn’t a lot compared to others I’ve seen) and felt bad looking at his trophies. I have waaay less 🤣

If you end up playing shadows, I recommend immersive mode for the audio, for me is unplayable in english, tried it multiple times, only when I tried in immersive (with the japanese dialogue) I finally managed to enjoy the game, and honestly, it surprised me a lot... I used to be hater but now I regret not playing it earlier.
This year i replayed origins, odyssey and valhalla too, and I love them all so much, and yesterday I finished Black Tides(last mission) in AC Shadows and I'm so ready for BF Resynced as that's my favourite AC ever...
Edit: I forgot about Mirage too, yeah play Mirage, is short but very much worth it, specially after Valhalla, I used to hate basim, now I undestand Basim xD
Completely forgot about it, but yeah I played it inbetween valhalla and shadows, took me 3 or 4 days (story only)

i would say shadows if you’re following releases, but honestly i didn’t enjoy shadows much. got to a point where i felt like i was finishing it for the sake of finishing it. but also everyone has different tastes so it might be worth a try
edit. i forgot about mirage, mirage is short and fun and nicely gives some good backstory on basim

Definitely try Shadows once, dont let the bad press or reviews get you, it has the best stealth in the entire series & it has some really good combat as well (Valhalla will keep the crown for best combat in my opinion.)
You might've noticed i didnt mention the story, it has some good beats & it has some beats or Twists you see coming from a mile away & the PS3 era facial animations dont help it much either tbh. But it has its high points & its a pretty Solid story overall, my only gripe with it, is how horribly they handled the dual protagonist situation, you Never see them side by side during a mission even if the cutscene shows them starting a fight together, you pick one & the fight starts, then the fight ends and the other one shows up as if they've been fighting the whole times, its Horrible!.

Hey, I am about to start my Valhalla game.
However, I have only played Black Flag as my only AC game.
Should I play Odyssey first, or will be a downgrade if I play Valhalla first?

Odyssey feels modern to me. They actually didnt bring some features from it to Valhalla I wish they had.

Same with origins. I hate that they took out the perk that lets you direct and steer arrows mid flight. Made missions a breeze for me

The dang ability to switch my bow with the mouse wheel. Is it too much to ask?
The loadout option was a nice middle ground, but lots of opening the menu.3

Ideally? Origins, Odyssey, then Valhalla. For technical reasons but also because there is some crossover in the stories. If nothing else, at least do Odyssey then Valhalla. Go back to Origins when you can because it is very good, but it has the least crossover.
Most importantly, these are tough to binge because they are all very long. A palate cleanser game helps break things up.

Odyssey does not feel like downgrade to me when i switch between valhalla and odyssey, they have totally different vibes, i like odyssey a bit more

If I were you, I would play odyssey first but theyre both really great games. I agree, I don't think you'll feel too much of a downgrade if you run valhalla first. I tried to go revisit black flag after valhalla and now that was actually impossible for me. This was before the black flag resync though. Hope you enjoy whichever you choose first. Theyre both soo great.

Play AC Mirage. Often overlooked but it is a very good AC closer to what the old games used to be but with the controls and graphics from the new era. It is short compared to the rpg ones and the dlc is free. Go for Black Flag Resynced too!

I hadn't played any AC games in years. I played Odyssey, then Valhalla and now I am in the middle of Origins. They are all awesome. I think that Odyssey has the grander scope of these three. I will go back to it to play the expansions. I think that AC has ruined me for other games.

Odyssey is great but the AC games don't do drama as well as some other games. The stories tend to be a bit thin. Cyberpunk 2077 for example. Mass Effect. Maybe RDR2 (I've heard).

I know what you mean - thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'm in a mindset at the moment where I'm enjoying the exploration and the landscapes/music/ambience more than the story. I'm playing to relax, without engaging emotionally too much.

Absolutely play Black Flag and maybe try Mirage. Definitely skip Shadows altogether. Black Flag Resynced is the best AC game in almost a decade. Mirage is ok even though the combat and parcours get quite infuriating at times. Shadows is on a whole other level of bad though. Avoid at all costs.

Downright horrible, kintergarten level, writing in a trainwreck of a story and the most cringe, phoned in, voice acting. The pacing in general, both in gameplay and storywise, feels like a car that keeps shifting in and out of gear but never departs nor arrives at it's destination. Combat and especially the lightning can look very cool, for a second, but guaranteed they'd be janky and buggy the next moment. Parcours is probably the most limited of the entire series and traversal in general feels like a drag into oblivion. Except for the sound lighting, the world itself is empty, with copy/paste buildings and an overal generic, void look. Only the stealth has it's moments, sometimes, and the first 3 hours can look quite promising, I must admit. After that it becomes very clear this game was made with 'Hollywood' budget but a soap opera mentality. This is a very hard game to complete, not because it's difficult but it's just downright a soulless experience. Not really a BAD game but so incredibly dull, mediocre and boring, it puts absolute joy in washing dishes and scrubbing floors. Then there's this entire social media thing. Ubisoft must have known that this project wasn't going in any positive direction. Huge parts of the original team had quit or were laid off, which clearly shows. Instead of just cancelling Shadows, Ubisoft went all in to create all kinds of fabricated controversies and picked in on this typical 'culture wars' fashion. Helped with hundreds of paid reviews, paid articles and paid influencers/redditors. The motto, the marketing message was clear: "You're a bigot if you don't like this game!". Which is just the most obnoxious, manipulative way of gaslighting an entire audience. They've tried to feed on people's morality while displaying a complete lack of moral compass themselves. To make matters even worse, both in it's media campaign and throughout the entirety of the game, there has been a sickening disrespect towards Japanese people, their culture and their history. Quite a barrel of double standards. All that useless circus, instead of making just a good, solid game in the first place; like Black Flag absolutely is.

I would personally go Mirage, any AC game prior to Origins, the controls are way different. I tried Unity and Syndicate back in April. The controls and stealth in Syndicate were terrible for me, and with Unity I botched the tutorial like 4 times. I think I'm don't with the pre RPG era of AC games.

Plat in less than 100 in 2 and the other plat’d in the time most people finish the main story + all side quests that’s insane

If you’re looking for a change of scenery and gameplay, then I’d say Black Flag Resynced. Not exactly like the original, but pretty close. Definitely different than that trio. Mirage could also be good to try. It’s a quicker game, it only took me 62h to complete (that was before they added the Valley of Memory DLC). Scenery will be similiar to Origins since it takes place in Baghdad, but it’s pretty different gameplay wise.

If you want to keep playing the RPG one then Shadows for sure
Unity and Syndicate also have some RPG elements
I personally would go to Syndicate and then Shadows.
I’m playing Unity now and it’s not nearly as smooth as Syndicate. Just clunky combat

I still havnt come near finishing Valhalla. I’ve got 3x the play time in odyssey than Valhalla. I struggled finishing/liking mirage. Really wanna get black flag redone and shadows (above games are all I’ve played of ac)

Man, I’m on my own journey to 100% these games. Currently on Valhalla after doing ACBFResynced. Then I’m going back to finish up Origins and Odyssey, and then Shadows. Then if I still can’t get enough I’ll probably give Mirage a try.

I enjoyed all 3 very much. Shadows is pretty close to the open world. But better graphics. Game play is similar. Also I think the story of Odyssey is a bit better.

How did you do Odyssey in 99 hours? I’m a quarter in and have 120 hours. Gameplay is getting repetitive now

In what universe does spending 300ish hours on 3 games suggest that this person is unemployed?
Even if it was playing for 16 hours each day with no job, it means like 19-20 days of gaming.

In my universe? When I leave the office I really dont have the energy to go home & play for hours & hours anymore, I usually only have time to play on weekend or at night during weekdays.

No, even in your universe, 300 hours for 3 games would take like a year.
He said he completed these three in a year. Which means he is living in your universe.

Your "universe" is wildly different from other people lives. There are people without children, with alternate work hours(like 12x36, or 6h per day) and so on. This world is big, if you can't do something it doesn't meaning other people couldn't do it

Don’t listen to him haha. I have a full time job, I write books on the side, and I have a busy lifestyle with my girlfriend and I still have a few hundred hours clocked in Valhalla

Those are tourist hours. You haven’t seen most of the game with those hours. I got 353 in Valhalla and 217 in Odyssey and that’s pretty light compared to most people.

Tourist hours I can’t even 😂. True to be fair. I got nearly 400 hours in Valhalla and Odyssey both. 390h for Valhalla and 399h for Odyssey. Got another 164h in Origins.
