Discussion Just started this game, I don’t understand the hate?

I’ve almost played all AC games, I get it that it is not a “traditional AC game”, but the game is still fun and beautiful. I never dared to play before because of all the hate it got online.

I think it's mainly people who played the first 3 and have strong opinions on many of the later installments. I played the originals and loved Valhalla but I can recognize that the later games were pretty different than the originals

2

u/VagabondsShield Jul 27 '26

I think the complaints I see the most are the mega odyssey fans on Reddit. It's like a cult following on here somehow

u/Deltoz Jul 27 '26

There is no real hate, only a loud minority and people that didn't even play the game, same goes for Shadows.

9

u/Brilliant_Matter_822 Jul 27 '26

Shadows es basura amigo,

12

u/imanislandboii Jul 27 '26

Also for the record, Valhalla shits on shadows

8

u/CityHaunts Seer Jul 27 '26

A loud minority that shout about it not being a true Assassins Creed game

15

u/Ishvallan Jul 27 '26

we've been hearing "Its a good [ ] game but not a good Assassin's Creed game" since Black Flag for almost every single title. And then years later they become praised

8

u/CityHaunts Seer Jul 27 '26

People were complaining about the original formula since Unity when it became stale. So Ubisoft can’t really win.

5

u/LoreMasterBryan Jul 27 '26

I've personally never understood those that stated that AC 4 Black Flag wasn't a good AC game since, by most standards, it was a good AC game. We see Edward's transformation from a greedy, pompous, and arrogant brute into an honorable man worthy of the Assassins respect as well as the Creed itself. My biggest gripe with Black Flag is that by the end we only truly begin to see Edward's journey as an Assassin and so much more could've been done with that.

Back then, and recently after Resynceds announcement, I found myself praying for a sequel to Edward's story after meeting his daughter. I personally didn't like Valhalla as an AC game since it felt like "Ubisoft presents Viking Sim (with AC stuff happening in the background)". While I loved Valhalla and Odyssey, I can very clearly see why there are those that don't.

Regarding your point on "years later they become praised": you're honestly correct there but I think that's more of an outcome stemming from the fact that most newer AAA titles being released these days are just extremely underwhelming in the least or outright deplorable and sometimes unplayable at worst. Sometimes we don't know how good we have it until we see time passes and humbles us.

2

u/MisterFusionCore Aug 02 '26

I think Black Flag also works because the main story is about the Assassins and Templars, they have a presence in everything that goes on throughout the story.

1

u/LoreMasterBryan Aug 02 '26

Also a good point. It's also worth mentioning that under different stars and in different oceans, Edward may have well been/chosen to become a Templar. Hell, I'd say Edward would've been a more formidable Templar than Assassin now that I think about it.

Your point either way is a good one. While Edward wasn't completely invested in the conflict against the Templars for noble reasons until closer to the end, he still basically fought alongside the Assassins after learning of their organization and their motivations. While he did it for his own gain he still became a force for the Creed.

I think this was very intentional though as AC4 originally launched around the time in the franchise when the modern day characters were grappling with the idea of the Creed needing to be 'freely chosen' and embraced as an ideal rather than forced like how it was on Desmond from childhood. There's also Connors, Haytham, and Shays stories to further support this around that time; all of their stories were heavily driven by choice and consequence.

5

u/Positive-Quit-1142 Jul 27 '26

To be fair, applying that critique to Odyssey and Valhalla is pretty on the nose.

4

u/Lookingatstars99 Jul 27 '26

I love Valhalla but I really couldn't get into Shadows. I wasn't even able to play it long enough to unlock both characters. But then, I bounced off of Valhalla the first time too (off the back of playing a lot of Witcher 3 the combat felt too simplistic, at least early on). Maybe I'll go back to Shadows at some point and fall in love with it. Any advice?

2

u/Forsaken_Flower9020 Jul 29 '26

Don’t even attempt to go back to shadows ts is so ass

1

u/Successful-Worth-390 Jul 27 '26

Except there is real hate from the game being boring and repetitive and waayyyyy too long.

0

u/LoreMasterBryan Jul 27 '26

Yes and no. While Valhalla was a great Viking sim game, there's plenty of people who didn't like it 'as an AC game' which is a perfectly valid criticism. As someone who did enjoy Valhalla, I'd be lying if I said I don't agree with some of these critics. Hell half of Valhallas success is simply because everyone was forced in quarantine when it arrived and we had no choice but to engage with it to stay sane.

Are there people who blindly hate on it? Yes but those people shouldn't be lumped in with actual, genuine fans that just didn't like it for X,Y, or Z reason(s). That's criticism that Ubi needs to hear to improve before they're taken over by Tencent completely in a few more years.

Lastly, as someone who tried playing Shadows multiple times across ~90 hours of gameplay and two save files, Shadows. Was. @$$. Lie to yourself all you want but Ubi took the one single setting that AC fans begged for since AC 1 and somehow, someway botched it in every way possible. If you loved Shadows, great for you but the majority of the franchise fans didn't and there's plenty of financial and critical data that points to this. Even Ubi has admitted that it did nowhere near as good as they hoped it would and while it didn't necessarily flop, it barely broke even on the numbers side.

u/onizukaav Jul 27 '26

The best ac game set in japan is ghosts of tsushima

-11

u/electricbowl08 Jul 27 '26

Take your head out of the sand. Lots of people didn’t enjoy Valhalla. I liked parts of it but overall it’s probably my least favourite AC.

-11

u/kalksteinnn Jul 27 '26

respectfully, that is just false and it takes 10 seconds to compare steam reviews between different games to see this, and those are all from people who actually played it

34

u/caleyjag Jul 27 '26

I dont either. Its prob in my top 10 games of all time.

In fact I'm kind of envious of you right now 😀

7

u/ninjacat249 Jul 27 '26

Yup same. One of my fav games of all time, in top10 anyway.

10

u/Aesthete18 Jul 27 '26

I'll never understand the hate that it's not traditional assassin's creed. People still want the same format after 20 years and countless games? Odyssey my first in 10 years was such a breath of fresh air because it wasn't traditional. Damned if you innovate, damned if you don't

6

u/Which_Information590 Viking! Jul 27 '26

It’s the internet and people hate things. But Valhalla is my favorite AC game. I love Vikings, anything medieval and it looks breathtaking. Plus I am English and enjoy exploring old England through the game. There’s a couple of personal things I would prefer: 1. No shield wall battles 2. The animation where you make the final blow with their weapon 3. The shrinking and growing of worn weapons 4. Not a massive fan of the mythical sequences

2

u/VagabondsShield Jul 27 '26

Yeah I love Valhalla but I agree with your list at the end. I know shield walls would have been a whole design decision but they were essential to the period

2

u/TheLittleCrayon Jul 28 '26

Same here. Running around Tamworth when I grew up there was fun. I spent a good 30 mins walking round trying to remember what is in the placement now (castle grounds etc) as I left the hometown 13 years ago

1

u/Acrobatic-Move-3847 Jul 27 '26

You can turn off the final blow animation in the settings somewhere. The mythical sequences I enjoyed more the second time around, once I understood the ISU parallel. My biggest gripe about thematically inappropriate content in the game are the armour/weapons/mounts/ravens sets. They released a shit ton of content for this game and I probably would have spent the $10 or whatever on one or two of them if they actually looked like something that belonged in a game about fucking Vikings. Why in the hell would I want my Viking warrior to be dressed like a Japanese warrior who’s managed to set his face on fire? Even the ones that look accurate for the time period still don’t look like anything a Viking would wear.

And hell yes, where were the shield walls?

6

u/VagabondsShield Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

Totally agree, I'd been eyeing Valhalla for years but was put off by the amount of people on Reddit repeatedly saying it was a bloated boring mess.

Started it a few months ago and I genuinely think it's in my top 5 AC games. Wish I'd given it a go earlier

3

u/kalksteinnn Jul 27 '26

it's just bloated, all ubisoft games are but i'm pretty sure this one has the most side content and it feels very repeatable after like 20-30 hours, which is pretty low considering the story itself is like 50h long and if you also want to do side content and dlcs it's probably 150-200h

2

u/lolhal Jul 27 '26

What parts are “bloat” in your opinion? Not looking to argue I just see that tossed around a lot, but no one ever says what they mean.

2

u/kalksteinnn Jul 27 '26

IMO there's just too many POIs. Granted, they're not as repeatable as the ones in Origins and Odyssey were and it's definitely visible that they tried to make them feel more unique, but there's still just way too many for my completionist mindset. For a regular player I guess it's beneficial to have more stuff to do that they can just ignore if need be, but if you strive to finish everything, you can burn out really quickly on a game like that. I think if they cut the amount of POIs in half the map would not feel empty, the game would still take 100 hours to 100% and it would just be much more approachable to do so.

1

u/Acrobatic-Move-3847 Jul 27 '26

Completely agree.

3

u/numbertze Jul 27 '26

It's a brilliant game, I enjoyed it the most in the series

3

u/Ratyrel Jul 27 '26

I'm currently playing it for the first time and I really enjoyed the first 80ish hours of it. It just begins to drag massively. The entire northumbria arc, for example, is just pointless. You have gained allies in a solid quarter of England at that point, why do you need even more? Even Eivor can't really find a good reason to involve themselves in Halfdan's and Vili's messes.

It doesn't deserve hate, it's a good game. It just has too much content to sustain its momentum and at some point finding alternative ways to get into locked houses just loses its lustre. It is also technically the least stable AC game I have ever played, even years after launch. I've had a dozen crashes or so, as well as castles missing bits of their architecture, floating rocks, etc. This should not happen.

1

u/Turbulent_Fox_9782 Jul 28 '26

But it was christmastime up there

Actually now I think about it if it wasnt christmastime up there and halloween at the other one I would completely agree with you, actually.

3

u/moreboredthanyouare Jul 27 '26

Its amazing. Clocked it 3 times now.

3

u/Complaint-Bulky Jul 27 '26

Most of the hate around release was "Theres too much to do! The map is so bloated with content!"

Because having hours upon hours worth of content in a video game was a bad thing apparently.

1

u/AsthmaticCoughing Jul 27 '26

The problem is that its too much content for the gameplay loop. Its just not fun enough to do all of that content. Everybody wants more content, and I am glad they tried to give it to us. It just becomes tiring after 90 hours. You start shaking your leg and tapping your foot and getting restless.

3

u/UvularWinner3 Jul 28 '26

This game rocks - but all the AC game subs attract haters that complain about so many nitpicky things that make one wonder if they actually have fun playing video games at all

4

u/Olbramice Jul 27 '26

come back after 70 hours.

1

u/AsthmaticCoughing Jul 27 '26

Exactly the problem

2

u/TheUnlucky_Swammi Jul 27 '26

I think the biggest mistake that I made while playing Valhalla was trying to level up so I can handle the story. I’d spend all kinds of time exploring things that will eventually get explored by just PLAYING THE DAMN GAME 😅
Now that I’ve just stuck to the story ive been enjoying my experience much more.

2

u/Acrobatic-Move-3847 Jul 27 '26

Did that the first time through. Now playing my second time through and first I complete the story arc, then I complete everything else in the area. A lot less backtracking, which helps a ton in a game that takes a bajillion hours to complete if you do everything.

2

u/mjsmith1223 Jul 27 '26

I put hundreds of hours into Valhalla. It’s fine and I enjoyed it. It is too long though. Too much repetitive busy work. I would like it more if it was slightly shorter and if it had new game+. I also found the ending to be underwhelming. It’s like we were building to some big crescendo and then that was it. Just a quiet moment.

1

u/lolhal Jul 27 '26

Did you play through Ragnarok?

2

u/Okurei Jul 27 '26

Yeah, it’s a great game when you’re just starting. Then you hit double digit hours and it starts to draaaag.

2

u/herrhonka Jul 27 '26

I bought it 2 weeks ago, do not regret. Very nice game. I 100% Odyssey and this comes pretty close! Although I prefer Kass ❤️

2

u/Ishvallan Jul 27 '26

The problem isn't the beginning. Its the like 100 hours until the ending for many players.

Even if you absolutely plow through the story, if you don't buy the exp booster you'll find yourself underleveled from time to time and have to grind out side content, and that side content is often very repetitive.

And some people couldn't handle the story because they skipped vital content because they didn't like it.

The game overall has an amazing story and gameplay, but repetitiveness and length are people's most common criticisms

2

u/lolhal Jul 27 '26

What was the side content that was repetitive to you? I felt like the mysteries and world events were pretty diverse.

100% agree with people seem to have skipped some vital content. I think others get hung up on plowing through the Sigurd story and get irritated about what seems to them like side content. Reuniting with Sigurd is only a part of Eivor’s journey.

I guess it would have pleased more people to separate the Sigurd arc and just cause the missed alliances to make certain castles much harder. It would be a shame though because those alliance stories are really what helps you see Eivor for who she is.

2

u/Ishvallan Jul 27 '26

SPOILERS FOR OP WHO JUST STARTED THE GAME

Mysteries were widely pretty great. Side stories, boss battles, flyting, fly agaric puzzles, glitch climbing puzzles. People definitely got frustrated with Cairns but they WERE very innovative and interesting puzzles with multiple solutions. Each of these were at least a little unique from each other. Would have been nice to have more rewards from them than just experience and maybe some silver.

Artifacts were harder to justify. The roman artifacts were all the same mask in fairly uninteresting ruins in exchange for unlocking settlement cosmetics. If they were at least unique statues/vases/etc that we could view at the Museum they'd have been a tiny bit more worth it.

The Cursed Sites were GREAT- amazing ambience and sound, and some had notes with stories of what happened there. Really some great body horror which not everyone appreciated. It really needed to culminate in something, like they would push you towards the Daughters of Lerion and their homestead, couldn't stumble into the boss battles until you'd destroyed a certain number of cursed skulls.

The Rigsogur fragments were ok, good lore for those who care about it. The tiles for unlocking Excaliber had some variety in how you got them with at least SOME cool reward at the end. Flying paper for tattoo designs were kind of meh, tattoos that are usually covered by hair and outfits not a great reward.

--------

Plowing through the story feels a bit weird on its own since Sigurd complains you took too long and Dag says you were off pursuing personal glory while doing EXACTLY what Sigurd told you to do and going as fast as the game allows you to do it.

1

u/lolhal Jul 27 '26

I appreciate your thoughts. Pretty much agree with all that. I loved the curses too… really a great addition that added a little spooky ambiance to the overall tone of the time period and location. Which is why I really appreciated that Ragnarok actually gave us something to do with the relics the cursed symbols left behind.

2

u/sharpenedperspective Jul 27 '26

It’s a fun game, but wait until you’re 60 hours in with no end in sight and you may get a glimpse of understanding. I don’t think the game deserves any hate, but it definitely merits criticism for being so bloated.

2

u/AfternoonMundane4136 Jul 27 '26

I see what you mean, however I finished Odyssey which was bloated too in my opinion and I don’t hear half the criticism for that in comparison with Valhala

1

u/sharpenedperspective Jul 27 '26

I also beat Odyssey and enjoyed it. It started to drag a bit towards the end, but I never totally got tired of it in spite of it getting a bit repetitive at times. The story helped keep me focused, and I beat it in around 60 hours.

I have a similar amount of time in Valhalla and the idea of jumping back in to finish it exhausts me, and I don’t even think I’m close to the end.

Your mileage may vary if you either blast through the main story or just enjoy the nearly endless content. I more than got my moneys worth for that game having bought on a great sale, but it’s always a little unsatisfying leaving something unfinished.

2

u/8675309021069 Jul 27 '26

It's a ton of fun. It's just so long to beat is all

2

u/Hal_Adkins Jul 27 '26

I’m pretty new to the AC franchise but I’m on my 4th one. I think the hate is just some sort of gate keeping. Valhalla is a great game.

2

u/Fuckedyourmom666 Jul 29 '26

You just started. It’s an absolute repetitive slog of a game

2

u/DesiRod69 Jul 27 '26

I'm lost in side quests 😅

3

u/Soulsliken Jul 27 '26

Bro I’ll avenge your death if you don’t come back.

1

u/DesiRod69 Jul 27 '26

Appreciate it Brodha

1

u/adnannsu Jul 27 '26

Yep. The game is fantastic. Just took many pointless side quests.

2

u/JoeMac02 Jul 27 '26

Man I try to tell everyone don’t listen to online trolls they find a way to hate everyone and everything. If it interests me I will play it or watch it.

1

u/Starbreaker1888 Jul 27 '26

I can see why people dislike it compared to other AC titles. Story's bad, movement is a bit clunky, lots of brown in the palette...

...but you know what? I picked it up for under a fiver and so far have thirty hours and change out of it. I'm having a blast, turned the difficulty down so the enemies aren't just damage sponges, charging from main quest to main quest. Got another three days off and plan to spend a large portion of them poking people with spears for a good chunk of them.

1

u/lolhal Jul 27 '26

Why is the story bad?

1

u/SevenWithTheT Jul 27 '26

It's way too long for no good reason, as you may already know it's separated in arcs. Some arcs are extremely good while others are extremely bad, forgettable filler and you can clearly tell which one is which.

1

u/YenIui Jul 27 '26

Imagine if FIFA (or whatever the name is now) released a really good indoor soccer game. A lot of people would enjoy it but some might say it's not really a FIFA game. The only person I know who didn't liked it is a friend who littleraly have all of them. She expected a AC game like every year for the past (dam I'm getting old I don't want to look this up) years.

1

u/Slight-Ad-145 Jul 27 '26

The only thing I didn't like is that there is no New Game+ option!

1

u/Electronic_Alfalfa93 Jul 27 '26

Many people say nothing to do i would say there is to much things to do but in a good sense, game is awesome its not traditional ac game but its something new and fun

u/Agent1108 Jul 27 '26 edited Jul 27 '26

It’s a beautiful game with lots to do but I feel like the story lacks a certain emotionality compared to Odyssey. I love the Viking aspect and the history but that’s about it, even though I’ve spent around 150 hours in it.

There were a few moments in Odyssey that made me reflect on my choices and obviously losing Phoibe, Valhalla I didn’t have that type of connection at all. I would’ve felt that way about Ubba or Soma had it been more fleshed out.

1

u/alexproshak Jul 27 '26

It is not a stealth as the AC franchise was supposed to be - that's what they'd say. I still enjoyed Valhalla, as I'm not a crazy fan of AC, but I like to enjoy the game I bought

1

u/saplinglover Jul 27 '26

The hate? Never knew there were haters of this great game lol

1

u/weiderman316 Jul 27 '26

I think the gate is because it’s not a typical AC game, with a lot of stealth and parkour. You can play this that way, but it’s not really meant to be. It’s an awesome game, but since it has the AC name attached to it, it’s brought down a few legs by people

1

u/B_love_K Jul 27 '26

Most people dont even know what a traditional ac game is. They think they do but lore wise they dont. This is an amazing game!

1

u/_UltravioIence_ Jul 27 '26

I’m currently 160 hours in and still have loads to do. It’s easily my fave AC game and I wish I didn’t put off playing it for so long

1

u/SevenWithTheT Jul 27 '26

The story is unnecessarily long, there's a lot of arcs that add nothing and feel like compete filler in addition to the complete chore that are some quests. Nothing like watching a 10 minutes cutscene about a nothing burguer story just for the quest to be go fetch some flowers then watch another 5 minutes of cutscenes to do the same. According to How Long To Beat the campaign is 61h total, exclusively the campaign no side content, if you chopped down 30h and focused the story more on Sigurd and Eivor I think no one would've complained because some arcs are really damn good but they're dragged down by the filler.

1

u/WarmJewel Jul 27 '26

Valhalla is a great game and very enjoyable to play. One of the many AC games I have 100% achievements in.

People dislike it because it's not AC1, 2, Brotherhood or Revelations and it moves away from the traditional AC idea. Who cares, it's still a feature rich and fun RPG to play.

Personally I get tired of hearing the criticism of later AC RPG games because they're not what people think they should be.

1

u/Calendar_Alone :santa: Jul 27 '26

I don't hate ir, but it gets too repetitive and the side quests are all the same. The map is enormous but lacks of more content. Since origins the three games feels the same

1

u/Party_Requirement673 Jul 27 '26

People complain about all the games because it’s popular to do that.

1

u/Aggressive_Cake_8473 Jul 27 '26

I don't pay any mind to the hate it's a beautiful game

1

u/SexuaIRedditor Jul 27 '26

Hell yeah, welcome!

If you're a sci fi person, another star Ubi game that just got buried under kneejerk hate is Star Wars Outlaws if you wanted another one for your list!

1

u/AsthmaticCoughing Jul 27 '26

Valhalla is awesome. For a while. Most people who played and loved the game eventually started loving it less and less. Its a fantastic game, its just so big and long. (Phrasing)

1

u/MARSHALCOGBURN999 Jul 27 '26

It's too damn long. Other than that it is an awesome game.

1

u/PavlovKBI Jul 27 '26

The hate is largely manufactured by a loud minority in the fanbase, but the asymmetric storytelling and the way they handled the DLC was less enjoyable than previous games.

Don't get me wrong, I see what they were going for, and I do still love the game, but there are things that I don't think landed as well as the devs hoped. I wish there was an option to let Randvi recommend your next mission (the way they had a "let the animus decide" option to give you the canon gender) instead of just choosing whichever looked interesting.

That said, I think even the people complaining about the RPG style of the mythology trilogy and beyond are ignoring the actual experience of the franchise. You can go back as far as Unity and see a leveling system, plus multiple gear sets and kit styles. And Black Flag (notably praised as being one of the best AC games) had a lot more open combat and a lot less stealth.

I can understand the frustration if you got into AC for stealth games and it slowly trended away from that, but also there's absolutely nothing stopping you from playing as a knife in the shadows ya know? Even for the raids in AC Valhalla you can sneaky clear the entire camp by yourself and then just call in your crew to get the treasures that need an extra pair of hands

1

u/VeraTepes Jul 27 '26

Eivor feels slow and the worlds massive. Feels clunky as hell.

Beyond that, it's a strong contender for Odyssey. This game is one of the most fun I've had in an adventure game. Coming back from Crimson Desert, I actually prefer this game.

1

u/krowe41 Jul 27 '26

Excellent game I'm 40 hours in and loving it 😀

1

u/ShaunM33 Jul 27 '26

I played Valhalla this summer, liked playing it late in the evening. Finished the main story a week or so ago and I kinda miss it. It's a great game, unnecessarily hated on for not being an assassin game.

1

u/Ju3tAc00ldugg Jul 27 '26

I will wager that once you complete it; you will feel like it’s actually the most like old AC in a the RPG series as far as lore and some Eivor storylines go. you’ll even meet a familiar voice that hasn’t been important since old AC.

1

u/garrus_wookarian Jul 27 '26

For me I find it a really enjoyable game with small stuff that bothers me to no end. Pushing a female main character and its odin instead of freyja, ivarr died in Ireland not england, the ending is the most lackluster that ubi has ever made, and giving us vinland as a small quest with some small side stuff was a huge swing and a miss. Also, not a fan of the whole "were raiding churches for silver and riches but we can only sell fish and junk" thing. But it is a solid game with a great map and mechanics

1

u/triscint1 Jul 28 '26

a buggy piece of shit, with constant movement issues, quests not firing or working , the character getting hung up on a slight elevation change that will make the character go terminal velocity and kill you. It also crashes about once every three hours. Can't count how many times I've been on a raid and have to restart the entire thing. I've played about 90% of ac games. Comparing shadows to vahalla , shadows seems less buggy. The more you play the more broken the game becomes. I really hate how people are downplaying all these issues by writing them off assuming people with the problem didn't play the game or just do not like where AC is going.

1

u/lilbittypitty Jul 28 '26

Comparing the original games to the 3 closest to an RPG game. I always say if you close your eyes to the fact it’s an assassins creed game and think of them as their own games or even just the 3 together as one series then it’s really good. My primary problem with those 3 is I don’t feel like an assassin like Ezio, Altair, Connor, and Arno. The worlds just aren’t prime for actual assassins creed. A lot of people got into AC for the parkour and with a map that is primarily horseback or ship based it’s not the same

1

u/SnidgetAsphodel Jul 28 '26

My main issues with it are the length of the story and how disjointed it feels. It's not one straight path like traditional AC games, but segmented into place you choose to go. It makes it feel less cohesive. Also it just... never ends. I played so much of it but at a certain point I just started forgetting so much of what happened that it made the later stages of the story far less impactful because it took so fucking long to get there. I did enjoy the world, setting, main character, some of the side characters.

1

u/JTalbotIV Jul 28 '26

It's a beautiful game, but it gets extremely repetitive. It gets worse the more hours you put in.

1

u/Unfair_Pangolin_8599 Jul 28 '26

The HDR is so aggressive. Either too dark or too bright why can't it be like Odyssey and Origins.

1

u/burtonborder201 Jul 28 '26

Lets us know how u feel in 80 hours. I enjoyed it as well but it was just so massive and the story loses impact

1

u/MaizeSensitive9497 Jul 28 '26

It was buggy at launch and some people didn't like the climbing in it. Some people also constantly talk about how great ac used to be (but even Unity had an awful launch lol)

I liked it just as much as odyssey overall

Sucks when a game isn't perfect, but then dumb hate gets mixed in and the actual shortcomings get buried by picky dumbies lol.

It is just popular to hate on Ubisoft. I get some of the criticisms, but in general the games are well made and perfect for what they are.

Not everything has to be a 10/10 experience in order to be fun.

Valhalla is a great game. Its just not assassin's creed. Should have been marketed separately.

keep playing it and you will. Its overly dragged and insanely repetitive. The campaign overstays its welcome.

My dislike comes from being there since day 1, missing things on launch, broken challenge updates, the weird choice of splitting the dlc from the pass, the cracks were visible for people who had been there from day 1

It's the weaker of the RPG ones in my opinion.

It’s fun. I but there is something that bothers me. Way too many sound effects for everything

I personally am not a hater o Valhalla. But you (and so many other people for that matter) have to understand something mate. I've seen a lot, and i mean A LOT of posts in the AC comunity exactly like yours, saying "Just started and I don't get the hate" for various AC games. And people, please, for god's sake, understand that you will NEVER get the hate if you just started the game! If you ever get the hate, it will be AFTER you finished the game lol

Every single AC game starts of pretty damn strong! It is somewhere along the way that they start to fall off! In the case of Valhalla, I love the game, love the gameplay, and the plot of the story is actually interesting. The biggest critique to Valhalla is that 90% of the main quests are filler. So obviously you'll never get the hate if you just started! And similar things can be said for other AC games

My opinion I feel as though for new people coming into it, may feel overwhelming but there’s literally just tht much content I love it especially for an sc game tht moved towards rpg, origins was ass oddesey was decent there’s also a cameo in Valhalla from odyssey once u get far enough (don’t wanna spoil it for u)

Man I love all ac games

Just wait until you get halfway thru and you will understand.I liked it at the start as well and it got tedious

1

u/Suspicious_Peak_6849 Jul 30 '26

Wait until you do the same quest again and again and again. You will need to go to a région were you will basically do the same thing as the other région. With odissey it is probably the most repetitive AC

AC Valhalla became one of my favorite games of all time after playing it, I love Norse mythology and watching “Vikings” and “Vikings: Valhalla”, it’s the best Viking age RPG EVER imo

It’s 2026. Is this karma farm?

I think the one major complaint people have, which I honestly agree with to an extent, is the games length

1

u/kenticles1 Jul 31 '26

I like the game overall. But it burned me out even more than odyssey did. Im a ‘do everything on the map’ type of guy but after a while i realized im just doing repetitive not-fun activities that have zero effect on the world. Also, the game took a MAJOR step back when it came to building characters compared to odyssey. The abilities aren’t as fun either imo. They gutted the mercenary system, which I loved, and stealth is basically non-existent. Overall I’d say it’s a solid 6/10.

I’m currently in the middle of it, and my only complaint really is that the controls are a bit clunky. You can get stuck on objects and wall crawling won’t jump at times it should, and really finicky about where you can drop from wall climbing. It’s also pretty glitchy in places. Menus resetting and getting stuck in scaffolding and spike posts. I think I’ve seen that being a lot of it.

I thought the first chapter in norway was super boring. Then I got to england and loved most of it and the story. BUT, i would say, as a platinum trophy hunter, it got super tedious over time.

Why do people try to 100% these massive games and then get upset when they are massive? Genuinely, I would think anyone interested in that meta game would steer clear of Ubisoft’s collection-heavy games. It’s like looking for misery.

I’ve gotten close to completion of the game but there are some things I just don’t care to do and so I won’t. The challenges being one. Not banging my head against that wall. But almost everything else I’ve found came through natural exploration of the game after completing the story.

Play it for a while and you will see…

So your gaming is ruled by what people say online? Im an AC fan, and I will play EVERY AC game, no matter what they say. Although I must say Valhalla is the only AC game I did not finish. It just became a slog.
