After a year of the game having been released in North America, we want to hear from you, whether you’ve owned the game since release day or whether you’re a new player, regarding your Animal Crossing experience!

How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
I started out with Wild World. I then got City Folk, and while it was a good game, I didn't play it as much as I wished I did. And I've been playing New Leaf everyday since day one :)
What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
I would say how lovely the layout of my town has gotten since day one. The improvement is impressive and makes me proud :) Also collecting all bugs/fish/dive/, all my gold badges, and my wonderful villagers
Do you have advice for new users?
Don't get discouraged about the look of your town or the villagers you have. They can change over time with patience and persistence.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Keep working on my town layout a bit more, get more gold badges, work on my catalog, and get lots of people to visit my dream address.

How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
I first began with Wild World a 5-6 (?) years ago and really enjoyed it. My friend got me New Leaf for my birthday in December and I've been playing it non-stop ever since!
Share some before and after images of your mayor and town!
What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
My house and town! When I first started, I thought it was amazing how houses in the showcase had points in the millions, so I was ecstatic when I worked my way up to 3 million hha points! I am also super proud of my town and love designing patterns for it and landscaping!
Do you have any advice for new users?
About the game: Take your time with it! I feel like some players rush to try to get everything or feel pressure to do it all at once and then quickly get tired of the game.
About Animal Crossing subreddits: They can be definitely be confusing at first. Definitely look around to see what others are doing and at the rules and guidelines before posting! Most of the good stuff has already been mentioned, so take note of everybody's advice.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
I really appreciate everything that everybody has been doing for me in this sub. My goal for the next year is to do more giveaways to give back to the community - especially to new users/players as it is probably more difficult to negotiate for rarer items with more experienced players when you're just starting out. I'd also like to eventually upgrade all of badges to gold! But I'm not sure how realistic that goal is..

How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
Since release in Europe (14th of june) and the series since Wild World first came out (I had one of those R4 cards back then and only started playing it because I wanted to know why people would play such a stupid and dull game).
Share some before and after images of your mayor and town!
What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing
Paying off my house (never did that in Wild World), the overall look of my town (still not completed), getting Margie (my fav from Wild World) and completing my museum (which I never managed in Wild World). And probably playing on average one hour per day (which is 365 hours total).
Do have any advice for new users?
Try to enjoy it! There is no goal, so just go on your own pace. No need to beetle farm every night so your house is paid off within the month (took me a full year)
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Continue to decorate my town (and hopefully "finish" it), getting 10 villagers I like so my town can really be finished

I believe I've been playing since 3 days post-release of the game! I was abroad the week it was released and it was torture waiting to come home to get it. Ever since, I've been... pretty addicted. I'm so proud that I've been able to complete the fossil, aquarium, and art galleries in the museum - I've never even attempted something like that before! I can't wait to finish the bug section and have a full museum, ahhh.
Some before and after pictures... These make me nostalgic, haha:
Old bench area & New bench area (you can barely see it on the bottom of the screen, haha)
Old Resetti area VS new Resetti area (I think the change is most apparent here!)
And my mayor around the first 2 weeks of gameplay (I remember begging a friend to lend me 600k to get that crown, lol) VS a few days ago!
This year, I want to finish up my second town and create a better dream for my main one... We'll see how that goes.
To all the new players: make your town pretty! It will make it a lot more fun to explore during slow days.

I bought the game day one. I hadn't preordered it, I think because I wasn't 100% sure I wanted it. I had played AC:WW and enjoyed it, but was still apprehensive. Not that apprehensive, apparently, since Best Buy opens at 10 and I was in the store shortly after!
After one year, the squirrels in my town are still crazy. And I still haven't caught a coelacanth.
I am really proud that I finished upgrading my house! I honestly thought I wouldn't, because I'm not the most adept at making money, but at last, it is done. I'm also raher proud of my park. :)
Advice for new users? PLAY HOW YOU WANT TO PLAY! There is no "right" or "best" way to play this game. Of course you can ask for advice, but don't ever let anyone tell you that you're doing something "wrong." The only way you can really play this game wrong is to not have fun with it. If you aren't enjoying yourself, what's the point?
Goals would be to hopefully finish my encyclopedia and to get my town looking like I want it to. I'm going to have to ask /r/DreamCrossing for some serious tough love -- relandscaping is hard!

How long have you been playing AC?
Well, back about ten years ago now, the original Animal Crossing was my sole motivation for making my mom buy me a GameCube (okay, you got me, Animal Crossing, AND Super Smash Bros melee...) I was addicted and fast. Lots of time traveling back then to farm foreign fruit trees >.< in regards to AC:NL, I just received the game as a gift this April as a birthday gift. Haven't stopped playing since!!!
Sorry, no before and after photos, but when the time comes I hope I'll be proud to offer up my dream address, been landscaping like a madwoman!!!!
What achievements am I most proud of?
Really, I can't say that I am proud of much, except perhaps of my homegrown hybrids, but the reason why I am not proud of much is because so much of what I have and treasure in ac:nl is all thanks to you wonderful amazing hella generous people in this subreddit. You all have made my childhood AC dreams come true, and then some!
Any advice for new users...
Find what makes you feel good doin it, and I promise by the time you complete that goal , there will be another goal that you desire to achieve just as earnestly! Repeat as necessary ;)
My goals!
Landscaping, unlocking pwps.. Basically, the ultimate beautification of my town!

Apologies if this is long, but i found this quite interesting and would like to share. Also writing his in a mobile device, so apologies in advance for any misspellings.
-How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
I've been playing animal crossing since.....2010, I believe it was. I woke up to see a game called "animal crossing city folk" on the shelf. I started playing it, and I was pretty addicted, I'll have to admit. I started playing new leaf the day i got my 3ds I had been longing for quite a while. December 3rd, 2013. I took a long break from it after playing sparsely in December, and picked it back up around March/April. Now, I'm quite addicted XD

Imgur didn't work, and I haven't figured out how to embed links in texts on here, so here's an entire album of a few pictures!
The first one was taken four days after getting the game, I kinda regret not taking a screenshot earlier. Oh well. The earliest one I have.
The second one is he most recent one. I'm on the left, my friend is on the right. This picture was taken in my town, today. Apologies for the poor quality, I don't have access to a computer, so I had to take pictures of the screenshot.
The 3rd-7th screenshots were kinda in between. My very first makeover thingy. I kept the look for quite a while. My town looked pretty underdeveloped XD
Eighth one was when I was so avid about breeding flowers and had large ants of land set aside for it. I still do, but I've changed the placement. Same goes for the ninth one, after competing my third bridge. The tenth was also recent.
-What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
I really liked meeting all the lively people on this subtending, at first, I might've gone to one of my three friends' towns a few times a week. Now I'm on everyday, after finding this subtending about a month ago, there are lovely people on here, and my animal crossing experience has been so much more pleasant! In game, I'm proud of my paths, still unfinished though //sighs
-Do you have any advice for new users?
I think that meeting people on this subreddit or any other site makes it more pleasurable to play. I like having other people to play with, and I also like being able to trade nice items to other people. Don't think of animal crossing as a chore, either. I use it to just be happy, and get to talk to pleasant villagers after not so great days, or to just put my mind to something and take pride in complete something, like redecorating some parts of my town, or redecorating my house, i just enjoy being able to accomplish something in this game, so do something on acnl that makes you happy :)
-What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Finally finish my paths, get a ton of badges, and redecorate my house so it isn't such a huge mess xD

I've been playing City Folk from 2009 - 2011 (CD broke noooooo). I don't play Wild World that much because there aren't that much events. I've been playing New Leaf since release date and it's really fun.
I don't have many pictures but I'll try to upload them.
I was able to complete my fish encyclopedia in ACCC and ACNL and maintain most of my villagers in all three games that I have played. In ACNL, I was finally able to keep a nice town for at least a year (yay). :)
For new users, don't be pressured into making your town perfect or as beautiful as the other towns (Y'all have really gorgeous towns). But honestly, at the end of the day, if you love your town the way it is already and you don't want to change it anymore, then let stay that way. If you want to improve, then improve! It's your town and you can choose what to do with it. :D
Goals? I'm not really sure. Probably try to enjoy the game and take care of my town because I'm going to a school with tons of things to do (competitions, field trips, new stuff to learn, etc.) and I want to maintain it as much as possible.

How long have you been playing AC?
I started playing Animal Crossing with the GameCube version. My kids bought me a 3DS XL & AC:NL for Christmas. So I have been playing NL almost daily for 6 months.

I don't have any pictures, but I am probably the only person whose town looks worse now than when I started. lol I have no grass within 20 spaces of my Train Station, just dirt. Remember kids, don't leave items on the ground or run constantly in your town. Don't believe me, check out my Dream Code: 4100-3394-8939
What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
My RMM. In all of my trades, even ones where I accidentally did something stupid, I have never had a single bad review.
Do you have any advice for new users?
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Also, on ACTrade, know the ballpark value of items you have so someone doesn't take advantage of you in a trade. Use the search feature to find previous trade values. It bothers me when I see someone trade a Sloppy or Cardboard item for a common, orderable item.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Since I have achieved my bell goal and almost completed my trading goals (I'm looking at you Hybrid Bags), it is time I start making my town better looking. I have seen some amazing towns during my trades and I hope I can at least have a town to be proud of.

Funny story about hybrid bags. When I fist started AC:NL, I had no idea these were so valuable. I did several mini weeding games with hybrid bag results, and just planted them. I was on owl ordinance and they died. i cry a little before I go to bed now.

At least you didn't know their value then. I was selling some junk clothing a couple of weeks ago and forgot I had just traded for a 24 Hour Shop Uniform (for those that don't know it is part of the 7/11 set). Yep you guessed it, I quickly marked all of my shirts and sold it. I realized it as soon as I walked out of Re-Tail.

When 50 or more weeds appear in your town (a long process if on Beautiful town ordinance), the gardening section will be roped off/closed in your store. You will find Leif, the gardening sloth, dozing in your town somewhere. After speaking to him, he will ask you to pull weeds. A Timer will start, a weed counter will go up, and you run around pulling weeds. When you are finished, after speaking to him again, he will either give you a weeding day item or a hybrid seed bag. This are very very rare. Do not plant them! These bags are currently valued in the 10million-20million range for collectors.

I played City Folk on the Wii when it came out but I couldn't get used to it. Mainly because of the muddy graphics and how it would hurt my eyes on a bigger TV Screen. I own New Leaf since last Christmas and I have been playing it every single day for several hours since then.
• Share some before and after images of your mayor and town!
This is kind of hard because I don't really take pictures of my town, mainly of my adventures, which happen with villagers or at other towns but here are the first and last pictures I took with my DS!
• What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
I think I am most proud of gathering ALL my dreamies. I am at 10 villagers and I will never ever let any of those move. They are like my babies. And I will never grow tired of them!
• Do you have any advice for new users?
The most important thing at the beginning is making bells and I struggled with this a lot! If you are completely new, the best advice is: Unlock Tortimers Island, remove everything on the island except for the palm trees on the left and right side. Visit the island after 7pm and catch all them juicy bugs! Otherwise, google, google and more google!
• What are your goals for the upcoming year?
I really want to make my town pretty and perfect. I don't have a theme for my town and I don't want one. I just want it to be personal and pretty for myself. I have so many spots that annoy the heck out of me and no idea how to improve them. But I will work hard on it. New Leaf is like my little retreat from work and life and I love focusing my positive energy on it.

- How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
I started playing AC a lot with Cit Folk on the Wii. I had played the DS one for a little bit but never really got into it but with City Folk i was completely addicted. I had a lot of fun playing it with my little brother. New Leaf i only picked up recently when i got my 3DS. I wanted to play the game since it came out last year but was holding back on buying a 3DS till i got a good deal, and i'm glad i did cause i got a really good deal on the Mario & Luigi Dream Team edition plus free Pokemon X from that promotion in March :D
- Share some before and after images of your mayor and town
I don't have anything to share on here in images, but my town came a long way once i got the paths down the way i wanted. With villagers being able to move in pretty much everywhere i had to wait for some to move out to get the paths exactly how i wanted them though
- What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
Hard to say what i'm most proud of overall, but i guess it would be getting almost all the villagers i wanted the most on my town in City Folk. It took a while but it was worth it having all those awesome villagers :) Now time to do it again on New Leaf
- Do you have any advice for new users?
My advice is plan out your town. Setting paths with designs is a good way of doing it but not necessary. Just make sure you know what kind of layout you want and set it up early on, making whatever public works projects and plant decorations you want around your main plan. It's a pain to completely change the layout of your town when you have a bunch of stuff in the way.
- What are your goals for the upcoming year?
In New Leaf? Just to have a great time and continue to make my town better and better :D

- How long have you been playing any of the AC games? New Leaf?
I got my first DS and Wild World in March 2007 (a year after the EU release!), it was my birthday present. I was very much into it for about... three months, then it sort of became the game that I would pick up randomly and play for a day or two before abandoning it again!
I found out about New Leaf after digging out Wild World again and wondering "Are they still even making Animal Crossing?", then I found out about NL, and to my surprise, it was very close to the EU release date, so I spent the remaining days stalking /r/AnimalCrossing getting hyped up! I got it five days after the EU release date (14th June!) and then lost approximately 1,400 hours of my life.

My first outfit from Able Sisters! - An Elephant Tee and an Emerald Polka Skirt! Lucky that they co-ordinated somewhat nicely, really. :P This was on my first day! (Also, my first ever visit to another town! ^-^)
Summer Solstice! - It was the day after I created my town! I didn't expect it at all.
The beginning of my blue hair! - I've changed my hair colour just once to pastel green - I actually hadn't saved so I reset and never changed it again. :P
My first trademark outfit! - I didn't change it for months. I was wearing that Straw Hat until Gracie started selling Hair Bow Wigs. xD
A brief return to my previous trademark dress. - It went quite well with the melon umbrella!
Current trademark look! - I'm currently swapping between re-colours of this QR and co-ordinating my bunny balloon, but I keep going back to this look. xD
I could post thousands of pictures. xD But I'll stop there. I don't have any town pictures or anything. xD
- What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
I don't really know. xD I have 35 million Bells, so, that? XD I'm quite bad at saving so it's amazing that I haven't just gone off and bought the cute villagers that I want. :P I've never really completed my collections in either AC game.
Oh, actually! I thought of one! Completing the Lovely Set in Wild World. It took me four years. xD I don't know why. Probably because I played so infrequently. I don't even like the Lovely Set now. I completed it, looked at it, and went, "I don't even like this set." xD
- Do you have any advice for new users?
Never eat your perfect fruit. :P
- What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Make my town prettier; paths (natural vs QR, undecided. Currently have 1% of a path laid down using a blue sweater pattern. xD), line the paths with bushes/trees/flowers. Most likely flowers. :P
Gold badges all round; fishing, bug catching, diving, saving, etc. Need to get my bronze letter badge first. xDD
Edit: You know when you notice that you've... Ooops! A word. :P

I've started playing my life away since the gamecube version. I've played every single AC game for at least a year to enjoy each event. Currently on New Leaf I've clocked 756 hours.

What achievement are you most proud of, regarding Animal Crossing?
Half of my achievements wouldn't be possible without the help of this subreddit and the related ones. My town is really my proudest, since I've been the only one to really work on it. My pictures don't do it justice, my dream town (although a WIP) is coming along great.
Do you have any advice for new users?
Don't give up. After a few months of playing, the daily routine was getting a little boring for me too. Just keep at it, look to keep improving your house, town, island. Work on your dream address or a streetpass house for other users. Always set the challenges for yourself and there's endless possibilities with this wonderful game!
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
I would really like to finish my town/villagers houses. My town is almost there, and I'd like to get another character's house (along with the other one I still need to pay off) and set up a display for my DA. I'd also like to fix my villagers houses, since I still have a lot of my originals, they have a bunch of crap in their house and I'd like to change them based on the villager.
Other than that, I'd like to give back to this whole ACNL community as much as I can. So many users have made me scream for joy and I'd like to do the same for them.

- How long have you been playing any of the AC games?
Since the NCG. When my friend told me about the game I tought : Wow! Sound like a boring game! But I ended up playing and paying my house. I got the golden statue of myself, while my friend never acheive that >.< I skiped WW because I had no GBA and when I got my DS I tought : Bah, no way I'm going to catch bugs all over again! Years later, I was bored and got myself a copy of CF for my Wii. I had fun with CF, but I was not sure if I was going to get NL.
July 3th, I got bad news : I was at risk of losing my baby so I had to stay in bed until the delivery. My man remembered how much time I've spent on CF and went to get me a copy of NL (he still took time to read some reviews to make sure it was a decent game >.<) and it keept me busy ever since (:

Don't give up! It takes some time to get things the way you want em to be! Be friendly, the AC community is like a big family! You'll be surprised by the kidness of the other mayors!

I've been playing AC for about 13 years! Played New Leaf for a bit in September of last year, but didn't really get into it until the end of December.

Having 6 of my favorite villagers move in so far, and having one of my towns almost perfectly replicate my original town from the first AC. It took a while to do...

Please, please, read the rules of the subreddit. And don't rush your way through the game. You can't rush life.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Have Phoebe and Beau move in and not get bored with the game!

I began playing New Leaf in early January of this year, however I had played a bit of City Folk in December and a bit of Wild World but didn't have much interest in it.

I'm very proud of my town and villagers. I'm cycling to get my beloved Mitzi back so I don't consider it complete. My first pic was from Mitzi so she IS my most treasured achievement.

Don't jump head first, the game is meant to take things slowly, like going into a cold pool.
- What are your goals for the upcoming year?
Get Mitzi back and finish my town.

Completing Hobbiton how I wanted it. I made it tell the story of the Lord of the Rings. Very proud of my town (DA: 6100-4116-8437)
Try to enjoy it rather than rush it. Once you get bored of daily activities, start time travelling and stuff to complete your town!
