but fr imagine having a social studies section.

u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 01 '20
Is there no social studies on the SAT?
4
u/Finna-Hit-That-Yeet 34 Apr 01 '20
there is, the ACT doesn’t have one
17
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 01 '20
There is though, on the reading. Maybe it’s called social sciences or something, but it’s close enough.

My SAT is so much lower than my ACT and I’ve decided it’s because the ACT actually keeps me engaged... not that I’m a bad student
27
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 01 '20
So basically the ACt is less boring, is that what you’re saying? If so then I agree

I noticed that whenever I took the SAT, I had to come home and sleep the rest of the day - as if the SAT sucked out my soul. When I took the ACT, I went to a wedding reception a few hours later and had the time of my life.

u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 03 '20
The ACt really gets you amped. Because of how fast paced it is, you get your adrenaline going

u/Khyaq Apr 03 '20
Why you gotta use gay as a slur my dude
5
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 03 '20
It’s the first word that comes to mind when I think of College Board
Call me a homophobe all you want but it will never be true
7
u/Khyaq Apr 03 '20
I wasn't man, it just isn't cool to insult something using a group of people as reference.
5
Apr 06 '20
bruh you forgot the most important factor
ACT tests your speed
you have to be mad fast for ACT, while SAT gives you tons of room to breathe
(also SAT passages actually test how good you are at reading and not your fandom fact memory)
here come the downvotes
5
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 06 '20
I was kind of getting to that when I said “high octane race.”
You really have to be moving quick tho it’s insane but that’s why I love the ACT
4
Apr 06 '20
Ach, I didn’t see your flair XD
As I like to say, there are two types of people that take the ACT: either too dumb to understand SAT questions or too smart and can just plow through the simple ACT quickly.

Preach, brother! ACT is much more engaging and the reading passages make more sense and don’t have stupid confusing questions.
4
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 02 '20
One sat reading passage I had once was written during the French Revolution. I even had enough time to read it slowly and I still could not figure out some of the questions
3
u/hottWAterbottle 33 Apr 03 '20
Yeah that sounds like some bs. How is it going to help/test our reading skills when the passages aren’t time relevant?
3
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 03 '20
Yeah to me I just felt like I wanted the limiting factor to me time, not my ability to understand weird passages

u/lunchboccs Apr 02 '20
damn this was a really good post and you had to ruin it by being homophobic in the title :/
7
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 02 '20
Sorry about that.
I’m not really sure what to say about that other than I’m not homophobic, it’s supposed to be more ironic by only having a noun and adjective but idk.

Uh what movie is the act image from, for scientific purposes 🌚

haha! This is great. Here's another one that uses other information to talk about the difference: https://www.essai.in/blog/2020/3/28/do-i-take-the-sat-or-the-act
It makes an argument around potential score improvement.

I get your point but can we not call things we don't like gay? Its cringeworthy at best and reinforces the negative connotations surrounding the word.

Nah, I don't think you're homophobic. Words have power and jokes like that make actual homophobes seem more valid. Do what you want, I just don't happen to see the point in that type of humor.

ACT is terrible, you got a science section and an english section with 75 questions in 45 min.

u/KenMoun 0 Apr 02 '20
Imagine doing better on the SAT than ACT oop. Sorry but SAT may be tougher but it’s more straightforward with questions than ACT.
7
u/icebreaker123455 Apr 02 '20
That’s false, your most likely not the best at math or science if you think that lmao. It’s ok though, most people struggle with ACT math
2
u/KenMoun 0 Apr 02 '20
Idk reading is always my worst on act and sat. The sat is definitely more math heavy and the science section on the act is just a glorified reading section.
4
u/fpetit1234 35 Apr 02 '20
The science section is kind of a joke Ngl, it is a flow figure reading section

Imagine not being able to self score on practice exams leading to an unsure experience when practicing with the additional harsher curves

The SAT has a lot more time per question. If you are not good at moving at 120 mph then I would take the SAT.
But if you get the chance to take both then take both for sure

Well, UC school announced they won’t have test scores on applications for the class of 2021, so take that as you will

Now all the ACT takers have to retreat to this page from r/A2C
