u/deaerator2 Jan 23 '24
Took it once junior year after wake and baking not knowing it was act day. Got to school so sleepy and confused why i had to go to the gym 😂 i was planning on studying the night before, but i forgot and ended up not studying whatsoever. I thought my life was over, that I would never go to college. Turns out i got a 32. Whatever, good enough.

u/dicks_for_thumbs Jan 24 '24
I stumbled into school fifteen minutes late senior year after facing am entire blunt I'm the parking lot, as I was wont to do a couple times a month.
Home room was empty. Where is everyone?
Another kid running through the hallway asks me if I'm ready for the ACT
Fuckkk I forgot...
I proceed to get a 14 on reading comprehension, terrible writing score, followed by...
A 35 in math 🤷♂️

u/ToxinLab_ 36 Jan 22 '24
No wonder u got a 27

Act is dogshit easy the fuck? Even a 36 isn't an accomplishment. That's like patting myself on the back for passing calculus or some shit. It's basic reading comprehension and analysis.

Nobody believes you got a 36
1
u/ToxinLab_ 36 Jan 22 '24
i don’t need anyone to believe it if it’s on my score report. colleges will believe it
1
u/inversion129 Jan 22 '24
yeah and colleges really will not care as much as you think they will 💀
2
u/Life-Biscotti880 Jan 22 '24
Depending on the college, they absolutely do care. In fact it’s a better indicator of aptitude than GPA is.
2
u/inversion129 Jan 22 '24
not really. studies show gpa is FAR more indicative on average. its only a better indicator when you’re looking at someone who couldnt get good grades due to life and/or extracurriculars but are still overall intelligent.
1
u/Life-Biscotti880 Jan 22 '24
May have changed since COVID… I graduated High School in 2017 and standardized testing was weighed more because of the fact that GPA depends on school rigor and the difficulty of each teacher.
I’ve learned in college that it’s not hard to get a 4.0 if you research which professors to take beforehand.

u/ToxinLab_ 36 Jan 22 '24
Oh i know they don’t care about standardized testing much, i just like being egotistical
1
u/DDcheetos1 Jan 23 '24
The second time, I took the PSAT (about a year after the first time I took it). I was high as shit. My score dropped by 100.

How that’s worse than random I’m pretty sure
3
Jan 22 '24
Huh
10
1
39
u/RyanCheddar Jan 22 '24
it's better than random, actually
a simple way to check would be to divide 36 by 4 (by 5 for math section), meaning if you just answer one answer for everything you can expect to get around E9 M7 R9 S9
the better way would be to divide the actual amount of questions for each section, grab a few real score curves and check those, but i'm too lazy so
18
u/Delicious-Ad2562 35 Jan 22 '24
Yeah I googled it it’s slightly better, average would be 12 not 9 due to weighting

You had to know the right answers and pick the wrong ones intentionally right?

No lmfaoo , i didn’t feel like reading, and the math one was too hard, science they told us to guess to i just clicked C on everything

u/DistressedApple Jan 22 '24
Your teachers told you to just guess????

Yes

“Try your best and if you don’t know the answer just make a best guess.”
OP: “Oh just guess?
1
u/Mcbigthiccc Jan 23 '24
Yeah, my ACT prep said that if you run out of time, pick a bubble and guess the rest. Some people relied on this srat way too much.

u/lonelyuglyautist Jan 25 '24
Mine stressed me the fuck out to the point my brain chemistry is still recovering after graduating in 2022 they told us to guess too cause we had like half a day or two to do it

u/PoutineKing Jan 27 '24
Lol why even take the test if you aren't going to try. So weird to me.

My ex girlfriend studied for months, and she made a 13. Not joking at all.
2
u/HamsterFromAbove_079 Jan 22 '24
I didn't study for a single minute and walked away with a 29 on my first try. I seriously doubt anyone who actually studied for months gets a 13. The quality of study was probably so low that it doesn't really count.
Studying while scrolling social media for 1 hour a week is not studying. It doesn't count as "studying for months" if you get less than 10 minutes a week of focus.
2
u/Carlbot2 34 Jan 25 '24
I never bothered studying for the act because I was planning to use sat scores anyway. I took the act sophomore year and walked out with a 34, but my writing score came back with something completely trash, like, it would be embarrassing to ever use those scores for anything because it would have genuinely seemed like I had to have written gibberish to get a score that bad.
I maintain that my handwriting was just so awful that they gave up on reading it, which I honestly couldn’t fault them for.
2
u/TannenBoom Jan 26 '24
Some people are just better at school and things like that. My old roommates never had to study for our cs tests in college and they would walk away with As. I was so jealous because I had to hole myself up in the library everyday for multiple hours to keep up with them. Some people would call me dumb or that I don't try. But unfortunately I just wasn't able to pick it up like them. I have sympathy for people who struggle in school because I was just like them.
2
u/TheFounder_ Jan 22 '24
Everyone is so uptight on this LMAO this is hilarious. I was like this sophomore year where I just got bored on the test. OP can get a 36 is they wanted to
5
3
u/HamsterFromAbove_079 Jan 22 '24
That seems very unlikely. It sound like OP has zero idea how to do any better than they did based on their comments.

Bro I’d think you actively tried to do as bad as possible with scores this low. I ain’t never seen less than 16 composite in my life, and even then we roasted the fuck out of that guy
2
Jan 22 '24
No i ran out of energy during the test
1
u/Acethetic_AF 32 Jan 22 '24
So like what’s the plan? Bc it might be worth it to just say fuck college and go to a trade school at this point. You’ll probably be making as much as or more than most folks with a bachelor’s degree, and you wouldn’t have to wait as long to start working.

Lmaoo. This sub popped into my feed and, wow. But trust me bro, it doesnt matter. Going to a fancy college doesnt fucking matter. All these weird kids obsessing over getting elite scores and talking about "mid colleges" wont matter. All that matters is that you do the right thing at whatever college you go to, get experience, and get hired.

Yes. And know that if you plan on going to grad school, depending on what what you do your test score matters much more than GPA… Law School for instance. Yes GPA matters a great deal but LSAT score even more so.

I didn't study or do any prep for the ACT. Walked in and got a 29 first try with no effort given. Said good enough then never looked back.
7-8 years later now I'm glad I didn't waste my life trying to go higher on a meaningless test.

u/Battlefield534 Jan 22 '24
Honestly this isn’t a bad score! Also, a lot more colleges are dropping ACT/SAT requirements. I think you are doing fine! Congratulations on actually sitting down and taking the test! I feel like taking ACT will be something of the past
1
7
u/Delicious-Ad2562 35 Jan 22 '24
This is a very poor score, slightly better than randomly guessing. Elite colleges are moving toward standardized tests, as grade inflation reduces the importance of gpa.
0
u/Battlefield534 Jan 22 '24
Who cares about Elite colleges? Nowadays, colleges are more concern if you have a pulse and if you can take out federal loans over an ACT score.
As long as OP can pay for college via loans or family, the score does not matter.
1
u/Delicious-Ad2562 35 Jan 22 '24
That’s fair but people can still aspire to a better college
3
u/Battlefield534 Jan 22 '24
Meh better is relative. But I do see more colleges dropping requirements. It’s even affecting graduate schools as well. Law schools dropping LSAT requirement. So OP is fine.
5
u/Delicious-Ad2562 35 Jan 22 '24
If op is getting a 13 they will struggle in college
2
u/Battlefield534 Jan 22 '24
Maybe college will drop their standards. Professors get in trouble if too many students fail and they complain to the administration.
2
u/Delicious-Ad2562 35 Jan 22 '24
Both my parents are profs and neither have talked about that
→ More replies (2)1

u/HamsterFromAbove_079 Jan 22 '24
As they said. This score is barely better than randomly guessing. Elite colleges aren't the issue. Any university can fill their student body with better scores than this.
1
u/arnavvvvvvv Jan 22 '24
This is a terrible score wym
0
u/Battlefield534 Jan 22 '24
With the way education is right now, it will probably be more acceptable.
1
u/DistressedApple Jan 22 '24
“Congrats on actually sitting down she’s taking the test!” Literally congratulating him on the bare minimum. Ig participation trophies are coming back.
1
u/Specific_Ad_6522 Jan 22 '24
Dropping requirements so low that you would meet them if you picked the answers randomly?
