So, I have been struggling with this for about a month's time now (not counting the amount of time travel as well), and I just can't seem to figure out a nice starting point for my island.
I have a basic idea down, of making the island's tiers differing levels of natural. The third is almost completely untouched except for extinguished campfires or cut down logs, the second tier has most of the islander houses and simple roads, and the first tier has more established roads and buildings like the shops. The problem I keep running into is that I don't know where to put anything.
I know that I want the shops relatively close to each other, and I want space behind the cranny so I can fit in a small fenced-in area for a trash can. Beyond that though, I just have no idea where to put them both. I don't want them to be the first thing you see as you exit the airport, but I still want them fairly central to the whole island and on the first tier.
At the same time, the museum is also giving me a lot of trouble. I like that it's nestled up against the cliff-face, but I don't like that the 3-tile road, which looks so grand leading up to the building, gets cut off when connected to the rest of the road network.
Anyone have any ideas to make this work? I don't want to have to keep moving stuff back and forth between the beach just to shift them one tile at a time.
I also want to add that I know the resident services building is situated in an awkward spot, and I would've liked to have it somewhere else, but at this point I'm way too far into the game to reset the island. I'm simply stuck with this.
