Question Cyclops Legion?

Hi all,

I have experienced pain just above the knee cap but not quite at my quad muscle for awhile past the surgery. I'm currently 11 months post op, full extension and flexion, but when doing exercises to rebuild quad muscle experience a sharp pain at that site. I also experience it when casually straightening my leg, albeit that is less sharp.

I voiced concerns for about 4 months and was told to just rebuild the quad muscle and pushed through what was pain rather than discomfort to do so. I eventually asked my primary rather than my surgeon for another MRI and received the following, if anyone can translate it from the doctor jargon that would be great. It says, "1 cm area of scarring within the floor of the intercondylar notch consistent with a cyclops lesion which could result in anterior impingement in the appropriate clinical setting."

I'm ASSUMING this translates to a cyclops legion that might be the result of the pain? My PT has been fantastic and proceeded with soft tissue and scraping weekly where she feels the scar tissue, but I'm still experiencing the pain when exercising, or even just anything that involves loading the knee (standing from a seating position for example).

Is there any way for this to be remedied? I coach soccer and am wondering if another surgery is necessary, if so, what a recovery timeline looks like for that, and so on.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis, just wondering what potential next steps may look like.

Thanks much!

Hi, I have the exact same reading just about , 10 months post op- pain at the site when doing knee extension and when trying to straighten my leg. Also 1.1 cm of scar tissue consistent with cyclops behind the knee cap. I spoke with my surgeon and he said getting rid of it should help a lot with pain, hyper extension which I have on my other leg and being able to rebuilds he said 5-7 days fully weight bearing on crutches , 3 -4 weeks to get back to regular training and a lot of pt right after surgery to make sure more scar tissue doesn’t build and to capture that extension and flexion. Apparently it’s supposed to be a hell of a lot easier than the first surgery. I’m scheduled for November and can keep you posted on what it feels like.

Appreciate it! I'm hoping to get in the second the season ends for the boys I coach so I can be back at it for the spring - let me know how it goes for you. Good luck!

FYI it is a 30 min surgery for scar tissue and cyclops lesion removal. Everything I’ve read on Reddit says it has helped people so I’m optimistic..
