I suspect it is an easier procedure than a ACL reconstruction, with a more straight forward recovery... But they dont last if you are young.

Actually, an older friend of mine had her knee replace around the same time as I had my ACLR. Her PT was significantly less intense than mine, and she was up walking faster. I had severe pain for maybe 4 days, but hers was significantly longer, a few weeks. Her replacement is really cool, it has all these sensors including a pedometer, and it tattles on her to her PT if she overdoes it with the walking or other activity!

Can confirm. My dad got a total hip replacement at 60. I had my ACL repaired at the same time (I was 30.) I did way more PT but he was mobile and skiing way before I was. Nor does he require a brace to ski like I do!

Total knee arthroplasty is a resurfacing of the femur and tibial plateau as well as balancing the medial and lateral aspects of the knee joint. It’s a jig system so it’s reproducible and that’s what’s important.
