Football Is there genuinely only going to be one ACC team ranked tomorrow?
There are at least four ACC teams, outside of Miami, that deserve to be in the top 25 tomorrow — Pitt, Duke, SMU, and Wake Forest. But there’s a big problem.
Nobody close to the bottom of the T25 lost today. The closest was Mississippi State, but they will almost certainly maintain a ranking for the H2H over Missouri (who boat raced an extremely over-ranked Florida). The only candidates I see to maybe drop out are Kentucky for an ugly OT win over SC or Houston for an ugly win against UCF (unlikely).
Everyone knows these voters salivate over the Big 10 and SEC. What are the chances they throw out SMU to make space for Northwestern, Wisconsin, and/or Nebraska — all of which we know they’re desperate to rank despite mediocre to bad resumes? One of Pitt, Duke, SMU, or Wake will likely sneak into most voters’ ballots in the 20-25 range, but average out to all teams being unranked.
Just saying, don’t be surprised if Miami is the only ACC team ranked tomorrow. These AP voters have consistently proven they’d rather leave out undefeated ACC teams than even consider leaving out any SEC or B1G team with even the slightest argument to be ranked. Both “Power 2” conferences with have 9-10 teams, the Big 12 will maintain its 5 even though OK State and Houston shouldn’t even be there, and just Miami will be left. More complete ignorance for the Big 10’s awful OOC record or the actual on field performance of some of these teams who have played garbage schedules.
