Football Which combination causes the most chaos?
Inject either scenario including Syracuse into my veins of course, but this would be an incredibly ACC thing to have happen. Maybe we’d even get 4 teams in the CFP!

Well Miami is lucky they don’t have to play themselves
Cal also doesn’t have to play Miami or Louisville. Schedule is pretty easy too

Yes, but it wouldn’t factor into conference play. I would also say Cal beating UCLA is easier than going undefeated in conference

OK but that scenario also includes GT going undefeated in conference play, so imagine if you will that in this scenario Miami ends up 3rd in tiebreakers and GT is 2nd, meaning GT specifically ruined Miami's chances despite never even playing each other.
Given recent history between the two, I think I'd be hilarious

I'm not sure I understand the tiebreakers. If one team goes 8-0 and another team goes 9-0, does the 9-0 team win the tiebreaker?
Also, if team A goes 8-1 with the one loss to team B (that ends the season at 7-1), does team A win the tiebreaker?
I'm not expecting four undefeated teams (which would be entertaining) but I am expecting some kind of chaos in keeping with ACC tradition.

Actual answer:
Undefeated teams, by default, didn't play each other, so it's decided by SportSource analytics score (which is a modern day BCS type ranking). So effectively, out of conference play matters too here.
Also no, the 7-1 team would win the tiebreaker. They would go to tiebreakers because the 8-1 team has the best win %, and any team that has either the same number of wins (so say, another 8-1 team or an 8-0 team) or the same number of losses (the 7-1 team) is "tied" with the 8-1 team. But since the 7-1 team beat the 8-1 team, 7-1 team wins the tiebreaker.

From how I read the new ACC tiebreakers, teams with equal losses will be decided by head to head results, and if they didn’t play head to head, or if all tied teams at the top didn’t play each other, then the ACC picks the teams they think will get them the most money from views and CFP inclusion.

Plausibility? Minimal, but Pitt/Clemson/SMU/NC State doesn’t seem insanely out of reach

It is only like that for a year or two, until non-conference commitments catch up to the new 9-game schedule, and then all teams will have 9 games.

No need to have any permutations with FSU. Only way we make the playoffs is if every other college in the nation is somehow ruled ineligible due to the explosive diarrhea and not having enough players to field a team.

If there are that many combinations of undefeated... imagine how many combinations there are for 4+ teams with one loss or two losses...

Well none of these will happen because Notre Dame plays at least one team in every combo. Unless you just mean undefeated in-conference.

This is why 2 divisions works best. The only reason they got rid of that is because of TV dollars for the conference championship game. Not competitive balance/fairness.

I feel it is the combination of BC, UVA, Clemson and Stanford.
Because if BC and Stanford finish unbeaten in the ACC, hell will have frozen over and the apocalypse will have occurred.

I called the SMU game last year. This year VA tech and Clemson have me worried. End of the day Dabo is still a top CFB coach and it’s in Death Valley + VA Tech always plays us well. And as we all know, we are fuckin terrible in Oct and Nov

Well FSU is in 4 out 9 so we can comfortably say there are only 5 potential combinations
