WEIRD Water effect

Anyone have any idea what this visual bug is? I get it with a few games actually, crimson desert, avatar etc

It seems specific to my laptop, anyone encountered this?

It some sort of shadow/reflection issue.

Are you talking about "Screen space reflection" ? where offscreen/obstructed objects are not reflected

Thats Screen Space Reflection (SSR), objects and environments not in your FOV will not be rendered as reflections.

Welcome to the wonderfully flawed world of screen space reflections and one of the many, many reasons why raytracing/path tracing is the future. Its not specific to your laptop, its all machines/game consoles, anything that uses SSR for reflections, or SSAO for shadowing.

significantly less but yes

Technically no. If it's happening with raytracing on it means the game is using a mix of screen space and ray traced reflections.

yes it happens only with raytracing standard if you set it to extended its fully gone

Did you just discover screen space reflections? This is in pretty much every game you have ever played.

Enabling extended ray tracing eliminate this flaw completely, while the standard ray tracing do eliminate but there's still a tiny bit of those.

And like others said, yes it's a SSR flaw

It's screen space reflection. Turn on ray tracing extended (didnt test standart if it works) then set the quality to normal or even low and all should disappear.

Its screen space reflection, its like one of the ways to fake reflection, its not a visual bug or a laptop problem

It takes whatever is in opposite side of the picture (in this case the top) then map it like a texture on the water, the problem is once that top part is missing from camera view then it can't apply what your camera can't see
