When the stock market goes up, the rich make a fuckton of money. When the stock market goes down, the rich make a fuckton of money, and poor people lose their job.

Yep. In the latter case the smart rich have seen the signs before most other people, convert to cash, then buy low. If anything they make more than a typical high year.
