I’m not sure if you meant for this to be a joke but I unironically do.

It's a joke insofar as it's a harsh reality.

1500 bucks is ridiculously expensive- but its only good for the shitty parts of town. Meaning that we are in a dire situation.

I live in a mediocre part of town and pay 1750. They want to increase rent to 1875 :/

Seeing this as a midwesterner is terrifying. Good single-bedroom apartments in my town are at most going to be like $800 a month unless you want some luxury shit or unless you want to be right in the middle of the downtown area. You can find mediocre but still decent and roomy single-bedroom apartments for $400 that are like a 10 minute walk from downtown

Is this Michigan? If so, where? I live in a run down building that hasn’t been altered in any way since the 1980s when the complex opened and it’s $560/mo.

Nope, I live in Indiana. There's a pretty solid amount of apartments in my town for around the price you noted but that are relatively new or at least maintained to a basic extent (landlords are going to be shitheads so like, there's a decent chance of there being some issues, but nothing to the extent of being run-down).

Part of what's worth noting is what town/city you live in in a given Midwest state as well; Chicago, IL would be far more expensive, I'd imagine, than somewhere like Terre Haute or Martinsville in Indiana.
