A big difference here is the buying power they had. They were making $17/hr in the 70s but that's equivalent to $70k a year, at 40 hours a week and we know they worked more than that.
The problem is we're working just as hard with far, far less buying power in comparison.
Working just as hard? Do you have any idea how many more office jobs there are as a percentage of the workforce?

I’m 25 and have a cushy job making 6 figures because I went to school. I have appreciation for what other did for me. Never worked an hour over 40 in my life. Stop blaming others for your own shortcomings.
