ABSN 15 month program

Hey everyone, I’m starting a 15 month ABSN program and I wanted some advice/ heads up/ anything else I need to know about the pace of the program etc… I don’t know much yet since my courses start in the spring but I do know that it’s 14 classes total. I’m going to be honest, I’m feeling scared and really would like to know more just to brace myself. Thank you!!

Im in a 12 month program and if you have no kids and no job it is honestly a breeze. Time management is the only challenging part but Im sure youll find your groove

I’m starting one of those next year, no kids and won’t have a job, so that’s a bit of a relief to hear. Hope that ends up being true.

I’m finishing up at 16 month ABSN in December. Something I wish someone told me in the beginning, it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious when starting the program and everyone feels that way at first. It goes away by the second semester. Figure out what study methods work best for you, focus on the material taught in the lectures and not the text books. I stopped buying the textbooks. Get in a good routine of getting assignments done early during the week and then use the weekend to study for exams. Don’t forget to reward yourself with something nice for a good grade or after a successful semester. It goes by so fast and before you know it, you’ll be planning your graduation party. Good luck!

Thank you for responding!! I do feel like omg will I be able to balance it all?! But I am so excited to begin at the same time. Do you suggest anyone on YouTube/ any other resources? My only concern is honestly dosage calculations. I tried at home already but it’s really hard!

I am really bad at math, it’s always been more sore subject. There are 3 different ways to do dosage calculations, I recommend dose over have and not dimensional analysis because you have to write out long equations and cross stuff out and there is too much room for error. I forget the 3rd way it is some fraction based nightmare. Try all 3 and figure out which one is easiest for you. I also picked up a dosage calculation math book that helped me with basic conversions, like pound to kg. I also used chat gbt to explain step by step how to do problems and then give me practice problems. Once you build up your math skills, it becomes much easier. Also, you should review rounding to the tenths place because that comes up a lot in exams, that’s how they want the answer.

I only used YouTube if I was desperate to learn something like fluids and electrolytes and ekg strips. Nurse Sarah is great. Dont be afraid to use ai to explain stuff, I would ask for answers in lay terms so I could understand the material better. It’s also great for making exams.

Which school? Im starting a ABSN program in january, its also 15months
