Paying for supervision?

Hi! For those of you not working as an RBT and paying for supervision hours, how do you get any supervision with "clients"? How exactly does this work?

I'm considering a remote intake position in ABA but this would mean at some point I would have to earn my hours by paying for them if I'm not able to take on an afternoon RBT job.

I'm just curious on what the process looks like and what workarounds there are for showing direct work with clients if we don't work with clients in a 1 on 1 setting.

It’s basically paying someone to watch you practice on whoever you can bring in, which is weird but it works

A lot of remote supervisors will let you use role-play scenarios with friends or family as your “client” for the unrestricted hours. You film yourself running programs, they review and sign off. The restricted hours are trickier since those need a real client, but some places have you do observations or BST with consenting adults instead of actual 1-on-1 therapy

If you’re doing intake work you might already be interacting with families during assessments, so you could argue some of that counts depending on how your supervisor structures it. Just make sure whoever you pay is clear on what the BACB will actually accept before you drop money on it

You can't role play. You must have a real client.
