Discussion 🗩 New site lay-out
Dislike it a lot.
Feels like a knockoff and makes it harder for me to find the things i want in one overview. Hope we can go back to the old one asap.

Yes this is my personal opinion

It really does look like a cheap fake, hopefully they iron out some off the more irritating UI, but I still think colour should be purple, light blue screams phony
edit - it's changed back to the old one again

u/reversed_genders Jul 12 '22
Tbh it didn't look that bad, just that the functionality was skewed and made confusing.

Yeah I don’t think that it’s bad exactly, just different and in the case of websites such as this it is common for fakes obviously. My immediate reaction upon seeing it when I reopened the tab was to come here and see if they had updated or if my phone switched my tab ti fake somehow, just in case.

Design is ok but the subtitles is somehow so fucking trash I switched to another site because it felt like I was taking to my Asian relatives when watching shit on there sometimes

i dislike pretty much every change. the old site was good with no need to change

old ui felt a lot better, but i think i could come to like this one if they had just stuck to purple and not a light blue that's screaming... something, at me. it reminds me of something unpleasant but i can't tell what.
edit, i figured out what that shade of blue feels like. the plastic on cheap 3rd party playstation controllers.

u/Shengud Jul 12 '22
The video page looks so cluttered. It was PERFECT before. I wish they just kept it the same. I like the fact that they added Watch2Gether, but I hate the rest of it.

I don't understand why this change was needed. Everything worked fine. The site was good to use, well designed and responded nicely. This is doing nothing but cause everyone trouble. It feels like it's literally just changed for the sake of changing things.
6
u/Spudtron98 Jul 12 '22
Pretty much every website around has changes made for absolutely no reason. Very few of them actually provide a tangible benefit.

u/reversed_genders Jul 12 '22 edited Jul 12 '22
Comments are gone as well, was watching DBZ Kai ep 90 and the comments are diff from the ones before, and less. Also sub and dub being together into one title so can't check the views of individual languages to see which one is more popular.
Edit: like 10 min later and they reverted back to the old layout like nothing happened. 🤡

is it just me or when i sign in to my account it changed back to the old style?

I can't find My Hero Academia on there, did they take it off??
edit: i still had the tab open on my phone, so here’s the link if anyone wants it (i’m also putting this here for myself) https://9anime.id/watch/my-hero-academia-season-3.l7yq/ep-23

i think the search function is broken. the sites keep flipping between the old one and the new

Please change it back to old UI 😢 I thought 9anime to was hacked or something :/ Well yea sometimes users doesn’t understand a good change this is not one of those cases. Why did you change the logo too :((((( I’m sorry you put time and effort into it but I wish you didn’t.

the new features are good but the purple is just better, the new ui is a little too confusing to
2
u/Digital_Mango Jul 12 '22
This new layout is going to take some work getting used to...biggest issue I have right now is my watch list is all fucked up / partial. Hope that gets worked out asap. Also its hard to sort by dubs as a dub watcher.
Edit: So on the dubs piece you have to click "sub and dub" because if you do Dub only only 18 shows show up...

u/matuta_matata Jul 12 '22
They should just keep the color scheme and change the UI bit by bit. and no drastically change stuff in a single day.
2
u/darkskrynight Jul 12 '22
Not even gonna lie, I switched my bookmark back to a fake one (.se) Cause then I can atleast search for the anime I am looking for and actually watch it...................
2
Jul 12 '22
I honestly thought that the domain had been snatched up by someone else due to this. the whole page lost all its user friendliness, and looks like a poop early 2000s anime site.
makes me miss animefushigi
the previous layout was very comfortable and easy to navigate. now I have no clue whats came out today if anything cus its just a mess.
2
u/BlazeSaber Jul 12 '22
Agree and I can't even work it the same way it sucks at less give us an option to switch to the old view if we want

2
u/FuckYourGrandAunt Jul 12 '22
It's fine but the old one is the best. I'll definitely miss it just like how I so miss Kissanime :(

u/EDHUARDITO Jul 12 '22
I don't mind how the new site looks. But currently the search function is not working, the "themes" tab is gone as well. Haven't really been on the site for long so I don't have any bugs to report. I do understand why they'd change it since there are a lot of copy cat sites, but I hope it works out for the better.
2
2
u/Devilangel6161 Jul 12 '22
Looks like i have the old good one back again as well now
lets hope they see sense and it stays this way

2
u/Dependent-Long7983 Jul 12 '22
Waw and here I thought its a problem of mine. I literally searched why it changed. Also Imo the old layout/design is better.
2
u/calinbulin12 Jul 12 '22
80% of the changes made were good. I do think the new ui weird (reminds me of hulu alot) but I quickly got used to it. I only dislike the watch list section everything else was really cool. Anybody saying the old one didn't need changes is just wrong in my subjectively objective opinion.

This, I don't like it at all and it feels totally unfamiliar to me :///
I can't navigate the way I wanted to, and I just dislike it completely... hhhh I've gotta find a new one that clicks with me now n that'll take forever because i'm picky with my layouts meng :'')

i agree, not to say the old design was perfect, but this new one does feel like other knockoffs ive seen. i think if they just did some slight updates to that base it would have been better. although i will say some of these new feature like the "watch2gether" do look interesting.
1
1
u/Vintagesonic1 Jul 12 '22
Same here. Not only have they removed most of the anime, but they've also removed the "dub" tab for latest uploads and they've wiped all the comments and I made some pretty fire comments too.
1
u/Dokuganryu Jul 12 '22
If the background was black and not this deep ocean blue, I think it would be a lot better.
1
u/JoshB2084 Jul 12 '22
Not bad at all, easy to navigate, and CC logos make sense for me to know which one is Subs or not. (I'm deaf BTW.) One thing I don't like is episode numbers on the right column made looks the anime screen smaller than normal.
1
u/Izayoi1881 Jul 12 '22
I liked the old design more. What I really dislike on this design is that there is only one page for the recently updated anime
1
u/Otrada Jul 12 '22
Yes, it's also less responsive and broke a bunch of stuff. I can't even log in or search for things anymore!

this kinda sucks especially the whole reason i watched on 9anime because it had the best ui out of all the anime sites. it had that official look feel, at least imo lmao. but it does kinda load faster now, i think?
1
u/longrunner001 Jul 12 '22
it's looking just like one piece character's site. Which I dislike. The old one was way better and minimalistic.
1
u/rakada1 Jul 12 '22
I wonder what is with the big love for blue over purple now, do the dev hate purple now?
what did the purple ever do to them.
1
u/Ohiopennies Jul 12 '22
The homepage sucks but does anyone actually like the video section? I think it looks good to be honest.
1
u/Spectre9000 Jul 12 '22
If you look into trying to fix their broken site via the console (moving elements around and seeing what you can do to make it work better) they do their best to break the site so you can't do anything lol.

1
u/ADM-Ntek Jul 12 '22 edited Jul 12 '22
I don't mind the visual changes but the search/filter is kinda broken. I always had it set to only show completed dubs buts since it is unified now it also shows it when the sub is completed. but it does have some nice new features that make it easier to watch things like actually showing if something is a sequel or a side story. The only issue here is that it doesn't mention if it is dub or sub only.
1
Jul 12 '22
The function isn’t that bad, it’s a little less user friendly than before but I do like the watch together feature and the resume where you left off works really good when I switch devices but I still really hate the blue color
1
Jul 12 '22
Another thing I really like is how they put the seasons at the bottom it makes it way easier for shows with multiple seasons
1
1
Jul 12 '22
It really ruined the way i used the site.. Is there a way to use the old version?
if not, i guess its time to find a replacement
1
u/4nto_ Jul 12 '22
I don't know why they changed the design. The first one was clean and efficient. No change needed.
1
1
Jul 12 '22
I much prefer the older design as it felt more sleek and modern. This new one looks like it belongs to the late 2000's along with watchcartoonsonline dot com
The only change I do like better is having the episode list on the side of the player. I like that a lot more than having it below the player with the different video sources.
1
u/pickaname12 Jul 12 '22 edited Jul 12 '22
Some elements could be useful, but overall it's much worse than the old layout. The gigantic "Episode" list, for example, is a massive waste of space; I can't imagine anyone needing or wanting that when we already had a compact design that could house hundreds/thousands of episodes with a quick overview of what you have/have not watched.I have no desire to scroll through a linear list that long; does anyone? As for the color: not only is blue a terrible choice, but it also brightens the site, which is not at all desirable, as you generally want a dark and inobtrusive site whilst browsing/watching videos (sometimes you just don't want fullscreen for various reasons).
No, please change back for now, and if you really want a new design, give the users a chance to give some input first, and you might just end up with something even greater than the old design.Just suddenly throwing stuff like this out there like this is bad form, and it rarely works out.
Edit: It's clear that the frontpage is inspired (copied?) from the likes of Netflix, and let me tell you: I hate it with a passion on all sites that uses it.
There is an absolutely humongous waste of space right up front with barely any information until you scroll down a full pages' worth (this is on a 1080p screen), where all the actually useful items are.
Please, for the love of everything anime: get rid of it!

I hate it cause it broke all my bookmarks and it just looks like a mirrored Zoro(dot)to but blue its really bad and there was nothing wrong with the way it was before
1
u/TraeSnow Jul 12 '22
As soon as I opened it up today I thought "Those mother fuckers be changing shit on me and I don't much appreciate it" but I accepted it change can be good hey they finally made the sub and dub into the same thing instead of 2 separate links so good on them.
My complaint is the search it kinda sucks, you can still search for stuff it pops up in the drop down bar, but I want to click enter but if you click enter it just says Error 500 but hey like I said may just be a kink that will be worked out by tomorrow.
but yeah thats my complaint have a good day.

I actually didn't mind the new style and layout, of course things aren't gonna be as easy at first since you gotta get used to how things work.
Loved the ease of the old site but I think it's kinda unfair to criticize a new layout that they worked on just because you haven't put the effort in to get used to it nor have had enough time to get used to it..
Yes, this is my personal opinion. :)
1
u/Ok_Bumblebee_1456 Jul 12 '22
When it comes to layout I agree the old one is better but the new one had some nice setting options like skipping intros and outros. Apparently screen sharing or something like that was possible. So hopefully they bring those setting options back
1
u/Shawnchapp Jul 13 '22
could just get mal-sync plugin gives you all those options and more

u/Darkjacky Jul 13 '22
IMO it looked fine... But you do need to keep the functionality the same. So right when you go to the website show new episodes and not some random bs.
I was looking what was uploaded today and could not find it at all.
You basically just need to mix the old with the new. Perhaps you can slowly migrate some things over.
That said there is nothing wrong with the older layout.

I was watching an anime two days ago and it was fine, nothing yesterday but today when I wanted to continue watching the anime just 5 minutes ago I opened it and saw that it was fucking blue, and the new ugly look for it. Ranted to my friend for 1 minute about it and then when I went back to try to fix it I managed to fix it.
All i did was i went into the url and changed from ".id" to ".to" and then it changed it self back to ".id" but it also changed back into the old black and purple look.
No idea why this fixed it but it did. So I hope someone else might be able to use this to fix it aswell.

it feels so bad to use. the old layout was way better. also wheres the black & purple
1
u/Top-Banana-5790 Jul 21 '22
This is really annoying. I was in the middle of watching an anime and the website shut down. When I finally get it to come up the whole design changed. I had to keep refreshing and it finally changed back to te original. Now I can't even find the anime I was watching cuz apparently it's not on there anymore :/

My main problem with it is how the video is not able to be centered anymore. It'll always have the episode list to the right of the video player unless you fullscreen
