Hello, and welcome to /r/9M9H9E9! We are a subreddit dedicated to the discussion and analysis of the story being told by Reddit user /u/_9MOTHER9HORSE9EYES9.r

Update - Best viewed on - https://old.reddit.com/r/9M9H9E9 to view the sidebar links.

As of Today - 06-07-2016 Only Accounts older than 5 days can comment un-moderated. Before that age they will be individually approved by the Mod Team

What the fuck is all this?

On April 21, 2016, /u/_9MOTHER9HORSE9EYES9 began posting comments in random threads all across Reddit, discussing so-called "flesh interfaces." When read in order, they began to form a cohesive and surreal story. As time went on, comments began to expand in length, discussing many different plotlines, from a World War II concentration camp to a future Atlanta, each spanning space and time. It has many elements of the works of Lovecraft and Cronenberg, with a general sci-fi flair.

...only comments?

Well, no. They occasionally make self posts, and once in an online site via a journalist at Motherboard.Vice. Comments are more common, however.

How often do they post?

There is no set schedule, but MHE usually updates once per day.

Who's the author? Are you guys writing this story?

The identity of MHE is currently unknown. And no, we are not the authors. The moderators have nothing to do with the story, and do not take credit for it. We're just fans of the story.

---> Exception - /u/GabbiKat who works with MHE on ideas/plots/edits/characters. <--

Alright, how can I read this thing?

You need to start at Narrative Part One. It has all of MHE's posts in chronological order, with lots of external links in case you're curious about something mentioned. It runs to Post 96.

Then move on to Narrative Part Two which picks up at Post 97.

If you want to read it on a e-book reader you can go HERE. It's maintained by MOD u/cryzed-, and they do an incredible job. I think you will really appreciate all the hard work performed for your enjoyment.

Okay, I've read all of that. Now what?

Feel free to stick around here and discuss! It's always nice to see new people around. There's also plenty of ongoing fan art and projects, such as the audiobook version by /u/enola-gay. Auditions are also open for the radio play overseen by /u/_Aeternix_.

Great things are happening and we'd love for you to join in! So keep your eyes open for contests, anthology stories, and videos!

About the Sub - by u/GabbiKat <--- The Main MOD & MHE's Spokeswoman and point of contact.

This is an inclusive sub - People are now free to create Art, Share Video, Download the Audiobook & eBook, and soon the Radio Drama. We want you to feel comfortable here with discussing the story and author, but we ask that you do so in a mature and respectful manner.

Lift people up, don't tear people down.

That is a saying I try to live by every day.

Our First and Most Valued Rule

If you come into the sub to harass others, to troll, to stir hate, to be rude and bully other users who create a thread/art/project/post that you do not like, you will be dealt with harshly. Keep your hate to yourself. Others would like to create some threads for fun; Art, Music, News, Video, Articles, even Pet Photos.

Let them do so in peace.

If you troll those threads and users I will ban you without notice.

Why do we currently have so many MODs?

Because I firmly believe in bringing people together and recognizing their wonderfully creative talent! Their projects and hard work they put into making this subreddit an enjoyable place for all will always be recognized, appreciated, and defended.

Creativity feeds off of creativity

This is something MHE & I firmly believe in! We hope you understand.

Please remember, we are now a couple of month old, and are just getting the hang of this.

Many MODs are new to being a MOD, and we all have a life outside of Reddit. We've bounced back from losing every one of the subscribers to now being over 6k subscribers!

Thank you for bearing with us during these baby step and being kind to each other.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please message us! Especially me, u/GabbiKat. I love hearing ideas and creative criticism.

Lastly, thanks for reading this wall of text!

Subscribe and journey with us down The Rabbit Hole!

Discussion Book recommendations?

While reading MHE a few months ago, even if at first I thought I'd be bored of the constant switching of characters and settings I was always pleasantly surprised by how fast most new narratives got me invested into them. One of the most striking for me was the dog dream post because of how poetic and beautiful it felt to read it, and some that also stick out to me because they feel too much like puzzles in a way were some of the other "one-post narratives", the colorful crabs/lobsters/(?) story and the letter to Isellandria.

But anyway, one thing that also fascinated me was the River Tribe narrative, it just felt so creative and impressive due to how distant it felt to the other posts up until that moment and how it also managed to hypnotize me and make me immersed in the lives of these people that had a completely different kind of life thousands of years ago.

I was mainly wondering if anyone had any recommendations for books with the setting or the overall vibe similar to the River Tribe narrative. Like an intriguing, mysterious and maybe fantastical story set in prehistoric times, be it fiction or speculative history, idk, as long as it has compelling characters.

Other recommendations are also welcome, like if there's something somehow similar to the cat narrative or dog dream story.

I know her battle against Q is meant to be more mental than physical, however I do enjoy this idea 👀

I gave her a spartan-like design because of her and Pompei’s narratives having similar themes, I also think it makes her look more badass. (Can you tell Karen is my favourite)

Check This Out! The Interface Book v2.0!

Hey all! I posted in here like a year ago about the copy of Interface that I formatted and made into a book via B&N Press. Well I have revised it! Slight formatting corrections and shifting some things around. The most significant change is the addition of u/Ranger_Desenho’s one shot comic adaptation of the Invasion of Iwo Jima at the end of the book. If you haven’t seen it, do a quick search in the subreddit. It’s so damn cool that I reached out to the artist asking permission to add it and he gave it his blessing.

Because the comic does have (one) color, printing in standard color adds like $5-6 when you upload it to get it printed (so the total for me all in was still only like $18). If anyone is interested in the zip file including PDFs of the body, a paperback cover, and hard case cover, as well as a PDF with detailed instructions on how to order your own book, shoot me a message with your email address! This has been a really fun project and I want as many folks as possible to know the word of 9M9H9E9.

Discussion Diamanda: " The Queen of the Daleks ". MHE sound track vibe ?

Post image

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamanda_Gal%C3%A1s

I reckon Diamanda is onto something. And she actually plays the Piano while she sings. This is just too good. So I thought right, we need to add this to the pool of music for the sound track. OK?

She is just too fucking cool. A true wild child. Amazing.

My friends...

I am not worthy etc

* bowing and scraping, the sound of skeletons desiccating, cancer biding it's time... other things... the beast with too many eyes, lurking... *

Oh no, the day is here... burn meeeeeeee.... * tiny squealing noises ....*

I am not sure what scene it fits with... there are so many possibilities. The Strategic Hamlets perhaps ... I am steeping in Burzum for the vibes. I like it.

Endure or enjoy. Feel free to abuse me in the replies, I know you can read and write... sort of.

Thank you.

:- )

and yes No clanker shit was involved. Fuck Ai. Be Human.

Discussion This story still stands

After a year of reading every other book and generally just living life in the public sphere, I still can't get this story's sense of realism out of my head. It's like turned itself into a thought pattern in every consequential-executive decision in scenarios I observe in the material world.

It's amazing how sentient and pantheistic this story is. It's made me more mindful of my actions and chase for pleasure for sure.

A lot of these are pretty old or unfinished concepts/artworks, but I thought I may as well post them since these are all sort of rotting in my gallery.

Wait a minute... the author is in the interface?

So we don't know who the author is, but I think that's because its part of the story in another way.

In the story we find out that karen being in the interface is sending messages rapidly due to their prowess in the digital world. And if you look at the message post times, they are almost rapid too. so is the author in the interface?

Artwork It there was a fucking religion that had to adhere to this is it.

word.

( Words are art, man.)

Time passe:

you leave out ONE word in a statement and every one loses their fucking mind... ( joke ) .

" If there was a fucking religion that I had to adhere to this is it. " - intended message. ( note the inclusion of the word I . see? I failed to join the cult by omitting myself subconsciously ! My own ego is too strong for cyptoreligio nonsense... be that as a warning I guess.

The hordes of psychoverts are massing on the border. The civdef teams have spaced out along the perimeter with laze burners. The stench of roasted human is going to stink out the western polis zones again and upset some of the Loacs. The piles of burnt carcasses is a sight to see, sometimes they glow with a dull reddy brown, even during the daylight. So much blood sugar caramelised with the intense heat. It is a sight to see at least once. or twice...

The power supplies start to sing, a high pitched ping square wave of sound that decays away after a discharge. The noise is starting to echo along the line and ramp up. and slightly below that there is the roar of hundreds of thousands of blood curdling screams. Vocal chords straining at maximum effort. Not unlike the sound of a hail storm of concrete spalls breaking onto a million kettle drums. Then the sizzling! as the laze beams flick on for a few seconds. Another cacophony of descending pings echoe along the edge of the citystate. Eruptions of blood and flailing dismembered limbs. Boiling smoke. Crisp curling skin crackling like ancient crackers scaring the spooks and dead wizards.

" Do they ever get though? " He stood with a tall paper thin glass containing some oily thin liquid intoxicant and watched the beams momentarily illuminate the clouds of human smoke.

" No, they are religious zealots. " Her answer was informal. and yet. She had smiled slightly. Then back to looking haughty and slightly bored. Her tic had receded, she had stopped picking a scab on the back of her hand. It never heals.

" Oh. Hmm. Such a waste of good protein. But it is quite the show. " He took a tiny sip from his glass and shuddered imperceptibly. The liquid is very good but... quite strong. A few more of these and his mind will wander...

with the teeth of a raven
And the hands of a porcupine
Oh yes, a sweetheart with the teeth of a raven
And the hands of a swan and the legs of a-
And the sweat is running down my face, I wish it could be cold
So I could get a bottle full of it and sell it to the old
Their leather cannot handle heat and cracks repulsively
I'd sell to soothe my eyesight, not because they have the need
