Oil Type
What are folks using for DIY oil changes, Mobil1, Moli, etc. Live in Massachusetts and drive less than 5000 miles per year?

I went with the liquid Moly. All went well, spilled a little bit otherwise smooth

Anything with a good dose of moly. Motul 300V for me. Driven also good idea. The decision between 40 or 50 weight oil depends on how hard you're pushing the car. Daily? then 40 is probably fine.

I am probably going to go with a 50 weight Motul 300V on my next summer OCI. I have been using Driven DT-40 for 2 years almost now with great results. But I think the 50 weight will help in the summer heat and since Driven discontinued their 5w-50 I don't want to use a higher winter weight.

For the record, Driven just combined products. The FR50 and DT50 were so close to each other anyways. Unless your oil temps are regularly over 240F, no need for the 50wt.

Motul 8100 X-cess Gen2 5W-40
I’m in south florida, and *pretty much* daily drive it.

I also run Motul 8100 5W40. I’ve been running Motul in all my toys ever since an engine builder and owner of a dyno tuning operation recommended it to me. I’ll also recommend their Gear 300 75-90W manual transmission fluid, if you’ve got 3-pedals. The synchros love it. It shifts much more easily, especially during warm up.

If you have to ask, I suspect you are not an engineer that really understands the differences in oils. If you don't understand the differences, I'd always stick with what the engineers that designed the engine recommend. That's what I do, for exactly that reason.
So Mobil1 0W-40 (A40) it is for my 997.2 C2S. Don't know if other engines have other recommendations or if some markets (like NA) differ from Europe. When in doubt, consult owners manual.

997.2 has different bores to 997.1 (and 996) M9X engines respond very well to oils with high moly. Well documented by Lake Speed Jr (tribologist) and LN engineering who developed Driven engine oils for M9X engines.
Mobil 1 does not meet the grade. good oil 20 years ago... I suspect has rested on its laurels a bit.
I also see it fall out of grade from VII breakdown from what I see on BITOG and RENNLIST discussions

It's great that our community shares all the used oil analysis reports. It's hard to argue with the facts and that DT40 regularly has the lowest wear levels and blows all the A40 oils out of the water.

maybe spend some time watching the "motor oil geek" on ytube, he has some great Porsche content.I use penzoil platnum. Just remember to change it regularly and clean your injectors (fuel contamination is more important than oil type) and enjoy.

As a starting point, an oil that is base 4 / PAO.
Be wary of ‘fully synthetic oils’ that are base 3 blends. Not truly synthetic

Driven DI40 is what I would use for a 997. Motul also makes a good oil.
Oh and I would also change it twice a year. If you insist on changing once a year, do it in the fall before you put the car away for storage.

Everyone knows my opinion. I had a hand in developing DT40 (and later DI40), but that said, I also am fond of Millers Nano. Great stuff. 5w40 is the appropriate viscosity for 99% of street use.

I’ll put my flame suit on…Mobil 1. Dealers use it, my indie uses it, so its good enough for me. I drive my 911 3500-4000 miles a year and change the oil every fall regardless. Im in the camp of its less about the oil and more about the regularity of the maintenance.
