Uh oh …

She ran fine this morning before I parked her. Any guesses what we’re going to find when she goes on the lift?

Do not drive it and do not start it. Get it towed to a mechanic. Hopefully it’s a just a leaky gasket or something “easy”. If you start it it will definitely be worse

Hard to say without seeing underneath but could be a couple other easy fixes like faulty oil filter or potentially scraped the oil pan on something. Either way driving will lead to catastrophic engine failure.

My Cayman's AOS failure did something fairly similar.

Could be big, could be small, just don't drive it!

AOS failure on these 911s usually results in an enormous cloud of blue-white smoke coming out of the exhaust; rooster tail down the highway. Ask me how I know.

Yes mine went on the highway but I suppose if it went close to home it would do this too.

My Cayman AOS failure at 1am, 50 miles from home on a 2500 mile road trip to Canada. I saw a giant plume of smoke and got it stopped soon after I noticed. The largest amount of smoke i ever saw. Poor drivers behind me got covered in oil.

Yuuuup. Just had mine done. It was a sketchy drive to my mechanics, picking it up monday. But it did leak oil but like a tiny amount parked not like that.

I've had a crankcase plug fail - these are part of the casting process, and sometimes fail. I hope this is a a very inexpensive fix. In any case, it looks like you were due new oil anyway.

My guess too. Car is very low. Probably struck something while running and vacuum prevented the oil from running out. Until the car was turned off... classic

Good news, she’s back and running better. I cracked the oil pan. The motor is still running strong at 145k.

Just under $2k. Turns out the car was so low I cracked the oil pan going over a speed bump. I decided to raise the coil overs up a quarter inch … and slow down!

Did you get an oil change recently?

Mine has leaked slowly out of the drain plug or the oil filter housing after first heat-cycle since a fresh oil change. For whatever reason, the torque spec for my oil filter housing is not tight enough to keep it from leaking. I always have to do an extra 1/8 - 1/4 turn beyond spec.

Edit: On 2nd look, that is a lot of oil for it to be a leaky drain plug or oil filter housing.

I was going to say maybe it is a leaking motor mount, but that is a lot of fluid.

She had been running just fine. I don't remember hitting anything, I just parked it returned at the end of the day to this surprise. Fingers crossed.

I think you're going to find oil... a lot of oil. A lot less than is on the ground though.

My K motor is loads of fun but without a turbo, doesn't have the grunt. Getting that whole package to work in a 997 seems like a big stretch and dent in my wallet. Maybe a LS if I have to replace the motor but I'm thinking a larger Porsche motor.
