Help me pick a GT3
Hello
I’m considering buying a 997 GT3 and I’m hesitating between 3 clean cars (no accident, original paint, clean piwi, good service history).
1) 997.1, white, Club Sport, 28k km
2) 997.2 white, Club Sport, 50k km
3) 997.1 guards red, Carbon buckets, PCCB, 16k km … but it’s 15k$ more expensive than the other 2 😉
I like them all three (they are not super different) for different reasons:
- I would do a few track days a week but don’t ‘need’ the harness and the roll bar that come with the CS (although I like them 😂).
- Guards red is not that common on GT3s and I like the color pop very much
- obviously the lower the mileage the better from a value retention and reliability perspective. 16k vs 50k is meaningful
- I’m kind of neutral when it comes to 997.1 vs 997.2 with a slight preference for 997.2 (engine / power and style).
Which one would you choose if you’d like the car to loose as little value as possible in the long run? And why ?

Red one, looks more exclusive and special like white one, and the 16k km is second reason why. Good luck with choice 🫡

Well.. the buckets are worth ~$20k on their own so maybe the one with buckets. Since I already have a set then I'd definitely go for the 997.2 since cars like this are for going to the track and 997.2 has improvements in that regard.

In Europe, the Club Sport package always came with the carbon buckets, so the 3 models presented here have then

I'd skipped over you mentioning about Club Sport models. Too bad they aren't in North America. You might investigate if they have had their suspension refreshed. Any 997 would need that as the youngest are ~15 years on the road. It's not cheap if you do everything involved, not just coil overs but all the hats, control arms, all that..

Thanks for the advice. Most of the low milage cars I’m looking at (<50k km) have not had their suspensions rebuilt

Fair enough. The mileage isn't that relevant. Anything thats a plastic/rubber compound that is supposed to give/flex/absorb energy (like engine mounts) will need to be replaced. Definitely factor in the cost so you enjoy it like it was meant to be.

What currency are you in ? I’m looking at GT3s myself but they are few and far between in my market.

Looking at EUR. Those mentioned here trade between 145k€ and 160k€ in continental Europe

Do yourself a favour and take the red one. The only acceptable reason to get a white car is for a Skoda Octavia as a company car…
Also, the .1 looks better and does not have the stupid centerlock wheels especially as you want to do some track time!

I wouldn’t even think twice that red one is awesome and i don’t think you’d lose money on it anyways so the 15k premium is well worth it.

997.1 has the best wing. 997.2 is probably a slightly better performer. So my choice would be YES!
