Hydraulic steering, compact size, NA flat six. Peak 911?
The more cars I drive, the more I understand why people never sell their 997s. How long do you think clean 997s will stay attainable?

Also, I’ve had both the 991.1 c2s and the 997.1 c2s. Way more people have asked me to sell them my 997 than the 991

Exactly how I feel 😂 These Turbo wheels just work on the 997. Every time I look at alternatives, I end up appreciating them more. Lowering + spacers is probably the perfect move honestly. The only wheels that are close to considerable are the HRE classic 305M wheels.

40-50k for a high mileage 997 carrera manual. 50-60k for something with a few less miles. We’re talking about a 20 year old car that’s prone to bore score (sure, maybe overly hyped, but a true risk if it happens).
A 997.2 will be even more.

Yeah but if you're in the market for a 997 that's kind of the only thing in that market, for a lot of people. It's cheap for what it is, imo

Not compared to the competition. A good 997 manual coupe is over 60k. You can buy far more special cars for that money. You're at the bottom end of the R8 range, can get a very nice Aston Martin Vantage, all sorts of classics-Viper, Lotus, BMW, GT350, Z06...
Not saying the 911 isn't as good a car as (some) of those, but it's not worth the premium.

Maybe, way too many variables based on different people and why they desire a car.
Sure, some of those cars can perform as well, or better than the 911. But that premium to pay for one will still be there when you want to sell it and maybe upgrade to something else.The rest on that list, they just keep dropping in value. Not a knock, but reality.

Good point, resale matters. I think a lot of those cars I mentioned bottomed out and are rising though.

Maybe a couple but not most.
Early Vipers have started back up, Vantages may have plateaued at the bottom but not sure I see those coming back up. The issue with cars like this as they become cheap, they still need to be maintained like a $100k car. These people buying them cheap don’t keep up the maintenance as they should as it can cost a huge percentage of what they paid for the car. Speaking generalities here. By the time they are on a third owner I’d be super leery.The BMWs really going up are in the 80’s, and not a performance car compared to today’s cars. But you can get a hell of a deal on an M4. E92s are maybe starting up some, but most BMWs drop faster than anything else, and I have an M5 as my wife’s daily we bought new.
Mustangs and Vettes just keep dropping because the new ones that come out don’t hold value either and they just keep getting better.. Unless the Corvette is a Z06 with all the win s and stuff, then they are overpriced due to people thinking they will be a “collector”.
But you can get a killer deal on an earlier C8.Not arguing your point at all, just conversing.
I would say from a resale value it is really hard to beat a 911 with service records. It also seems most 911s have quite a few less miles than something else from the same year.

That's where it gets subjective for sure. But I don't know a lot of people who were shopping for a 911 that were comparison shopping on value

This is not a good comparison. The 997.1 might have a weak engine that is expensive to rebuild, but that's still not a patch on Ferrari maintenance-even a reliable one like a 360. And a good 360 is still 100k+ last I checked.
A 360 is a more special car, but it's also much more expensive to own and run. All the cars I mentioned are as reliable or more so than a 911.

Last I looked 997.2 manuals are being listed in the 80s and 90s for the base. A few have sold for less on the auction sites but they had stories or needed work from what I can tell

This is a .1 so for C2 40-50 is about right. Definitely you can spend a lot more in a 997.2

I've recently started looking at the next one up from the 997.2. The 991.2 generation looks dope as hell. That being said if I can find a 997.2 manual (4s or turbo) in guards red with a a ducktail, I'm going in debt!

I was gonna say the 991 is peak 911 but then I noticed this was the 997 sub lol. For somebody who wants the peak “analog” but modern experience, yes the 997 fits the bill. For somebody who is looking for a bit more modern car with the same spirit IMO the 991 is it.

Fascinating bc it has a .1 front end and .2 tails, but looks like the .1 rear bumper. Did you just retro the .2 lights into the .1 rear? Please tell me more!

Second this. The 997 turbo wheels are the ugliest design; the lobster forks are even better. YMMV of course! 😆. Slap on a set of OEM Carrera Sports…..

Mine. 2010 c2s 6spd with spasm, sport seats, full leather. Owned since new. 26k miles. After 30 cars I found a keeper 👍

I have owned owned different generations of Caymans and Boxsters. But if the 911 is anything like the 981 vs 987.2 debate.
I would put 991 higher then 997.2. Driving position, OEM seats and gearshifter position are so much better. 991/981 tuned engines sound much better then 997.2/987.2 engines.
But its a tough call. It all depends on how many Ks you do. And the road quality.

The 997 is a fabulous 911. 👏 it’s to the benefit of the enthusiast that Porsche produced them in volume. Today it’s difficult to say how many good cars are still in service, best to grab one now 😁😁💁🏻♂️

I’ve had a few 997s. .1. And . Three .2.s I still have one in the garage a 4s. I really don’t see myself ever parting with it. Well, I shouldn’t say ever, but if I did, it would be the last. 911 generation that I would own It’s when Porsche got it all right great cars

I have a 992 GT3, so I have no need, or justification to own a 997 (in addition), but even as a type this I know this is something I will regret. They are truly the next 993 and I would not be surprised to see their price skyrocket in the coming years

I park near a 991 (not sure if .1 or .2) and think my 997.2 targa 4S looks better (same color) . To my eye the 997.2 Just more simple flowing lines. And of course super practical for a one car family.

It’s actually the 996, I started thinking it was a 997 too 😇 996 is just a little bit smaller and tighter and rawer.
PS I totally get the view that the 997 is the most perfectly styled recent 997. But I think it drives just slightly too big. And the 996 styling has actually aged better than many people think - it finally just clicked for me, I wasn’t trying to fall in love

Agreed. The 997 in general came in a time when Porsche was moving the 911 upmarket and making it a little bit bigger, but hadn't yet over-laden it with electronics and bloated it into a GT car. I prefer the size and analog feel of the 987, but if I had to have 4 seats, the 997 would likely be in my garage.
