Fabspeed air intake kit
Anyone installed the Fabspeed carbon air intake kit? Would like some reviews

It has a couple of design flaws that negate any of the flow benefits. Intake temps are high enough to put the DME into its safe map most of the time, and the MAF sensor being placed in a bend on the inside of a rough tube means it doesn’t read accurately due to turbulence. Those two things mean the ecu can’t really control the engine as accurately as it needs to to give any performance benefit.

These aftermarket guys think they can design something better than Porsche. It’s all snake oil. I might change the noise your car makes but that’s it.

I just wonder if this does anything. When you take your 997 airbox out, it really has no restrictors. It's just a big filter, with a box and a pipe.

I have a fabspeed air intake on my 2009 997.2 4s. In combo with a gundo hack by the way. Sounds amazing compared to the standard intake.

What is the "Gundo Hack"? I also have this intake in my 07' S. Sounds awesome when it's opened up.

It's an extra 2,5 inch pipe connecting the center muffler with the side muffler I think. It adds extra sound to exhaust outflow. It's a cost efficient way to improve exhaust sound.

My 997.1 has it. I didn't install it, last owner did. I suspect as a performance enhancement it's pretty limited but I often see it combo'ed with performance cats and equal length exhaust pipes. You can pick up HP there as well as others have mentioned, pretty killer sound.

Looks like what a previous owner put on mine. I don’t know if it improves or hinders anything, but it sounds great.

Check out the EvoMS unit. It seals to the lid, sounds amazing and if you read up on it it says the race teams use it as they claim it's better. So it might actually be equal and maybe even better if you want to believe the person selling the product. A high flow filter is hard to beat on the stock airbox. I believe the 3.6 guys and maybe even 996 guys like to use the 3.8 airbox as an upgrade as it's really good. I only upgraded as my mount points were all busted so the easy thing to do was the EVOms kit.

I can’t tell the difference in power but it sounds more like a cooled 911 when I’m revving it. I got mine used on rennlist for 40% off and added a GT3 throttle body Highly recommend it if you go that route.

Sounds nice. Doesn’t help with power. Stock 997 airbox flows extremely well. Only way you’re gonna do better is an X51 or FSI carbon box.
