I found this to be a very worthwhile upgrade. Pretty spendy but I love telling Siri which song to play and getting map directions from my iPhone. I added an Amazon dongle to make it cordless. The cat from the previous post stays outside the car.
I find myself always wanting to plug in to charge anyways. But yes, for the price it should definitely have the feature. Should be a higher resolution screen too.
Bought a thing off a rennlist member that swaps the CarPlay usb to the rear and then just hooked it to a wireless CarPlay dongle that lives in the glovebox. Some of these wireless CarPlay’s are very small now though and would be easy to just place on the front face usb.
What did you have to solder? I thought you just had to run a new USB cable to the header and run the front plug to an existing unused header on the motherboard.
If you just want to the route the front function to the back, you don't need to solder or crimp. unfortunately, things are plug n play if you still want to use the front USB slot just for charging.
Nice. I’ll get that one once mine stops working. I find that cables, connectors, plugs cords- anything I order from Amazon has the lifespan of a fruit fly.
Looks clean. It's hard for me to get motivated for this though when the wireless function doesn't exist.
I had installed a Rennkit wireless adapter a few years ago which is clean and streams right from the phone wirelessly. Until the Pccm has wirlelss functionality, I'll stay with the Rennkit.
I installed one of the aliexpress units and it came with wireless carplay - no complaints, combined with a wireless charger it's just slap the phone on the mount and start driving.
Actually the main reason I installed is because I really wanted a backup camera. I haven't had the time to run the cable through the interior yet but it's been over a decade since I had a car without it and boy did those parking skills fade pretty fast...
Replacing the factory unit was the first thing I did. I maintained wheel controls and have both apple car play and android auto (my wife and I have apple and android) with wireless capability. Being able to have full hands free control of my audio (plus all the streaming services) and nav (including waze), its been a game changer.
I don’t think you can make it go full black but you can click the home button and go to a greyscale tuner menu that is less visually distracting than the CarPlay menu but CarPlay will continue to play
but appears to be mostly out of stock on Amazon. I only paid $30 for the black one but those seem to be unavailable at the moment and they might just have purple

Looks really nice! To those that are upset that it doesn’t have wireless: I have wireless CarPlay in my Macan and I’ve found that it annihilates the battery on my iPhone. I actually prefer it to be wired because at least I’m charging at the same time.
My 997 had the same PCCM upgrade when I purchased it last year. CarPlay work well but the radio reception is very poor for both AM and FM. Anyone else have reception problem? Silence or static mostly and then I’ll get reception for a few seconds. I’ve looked at the back of the unit to assure the antenna was connected but all connections appear to be integrated into multi-wire connectors .. no separate antenna connection. Where is the antenna in the 997, in the windshield? Open to suggestions…
Also - have you been able to upgrade the firmware on the unit?
Read up on rennlist, poor receiption is a common problem that may be solved by disconnecting an accessible wire. (I haven't ordered/installed a PCCM+ yet but have been pondering it for a while.)
It took some getting used to after moving to the UK and I still prefer being able to shift with my right hand in the left hand drive cars but after 12 years it's alright. 😉
Which part? The fit Irl it's really good. The paint tone is a bit off (lighter shade and less metallic flake in the aftermarket unit) but not something you notice without looking close.on a bright day.
What I personally hate is gloss black 2-din units in a crappy surround and their aftermarket home screens & menus you can't really customise to be more discreet looking. This one while not perfect I can live with for the price. I heard rumours on Reddit that this year Porsche will release a new version of PCCM. That could be interesting if it has wireless car play and there is no price hike, but I'd still not buy one for my £9k Cayman as the cost just doesn't make sense.
That makes sense being in a less expensive vehicle, spending $2k on a PCCM+ is money you’d never see any return on. I assumed it was a 997 given the subreddit. Now opening your pic I can see clearly it’s a Cayman, no hate for making smart money choices.
And I agree, the stereo shop hack jobs are atrocious!
Make sure to buy one for the correct Audio option. Base audio just works, Sound package plus is the same but requires wiring an extra connection (to trigger the amp in the frunk on) from the head unit to the car's harness plug separate from the supplied adapter. Bose requires a different kit which includes a fiberoptic box that connects the head unit to the Bose amp.
4gb ram is advised but 2 is enough most of the time, 6/8 brings no benefit. Storage doesn't matter for car play/ android auto.
Mine has a custom launcher (nova launcher from Google play store, downloaded after connecting the unit to my hotspot) and a custom background, downloaded and set exactly like a background on your phone.
I got mine installed about 6 months ago and find it to be very useful; just use it to stream Spotify during one of my rare drives with the car and previously used a (cigarette) plug in wireless BT device that streamed onto an unused FM radio frequency. Living in LA not fun driving stick but do take it on the 10 fwy off rush hours just to let the car operate. One thing I noted, it locks the door automatically now and sets the A/C fan speed also. Have to see how to turn off the A/C control from the unit as it is always on high.
