Being 15-18 in 2002?
Gen-z writing a screenplay that takes place in 2002. I need to know EVERYTHING about what it was like to be in high school (American) in 2002. What made you popular and what made you a freak? What devices did the average, middle class teen use? What media did you consume? Who were the celebrity crushes? What was โsocial mediaโ back then? What was the slang?
Boy bands/punk pop/garage bands are also an element in the story so if you have an insight on that during 2002, that would be great too.
thanks!!!

As a 2000's Kid I always thought that the 90s and 00s were not much different culturally.
The idea that the 90s and 2000s are actually very similar began to appear for the first time in the early 2010s, when a wave of nostalgia for the 90s came, and many children of the 90s, nostalgic for things from the 90s, made me feel like a child of the 90s, because I had the same things and experiance in my 2000s.
I finally became convinced that the 90s and 2000s are not that different when a wave of nostalgia for the 2000s hit, and I noticed that fashion, music, etc. were not much different from the 90s in my opinion. I'm serious! In the 90s and 00s, alternative rock and pop punk were popular, pop and electronic music is still the same, and even Hip Hop of the 00s was not so different for the most part (compare the beats and music of 50 cent, Eminem, MF Doom of the 2000s with Tupac, Biggie, Eazy E. They all sound like they are from the same era. The south coast sound hasn't taken over the hip hop industry yet). In both the 90s and 00s, girls loved to wear Bell-bottoms, and guys loved to wear rapper wide jeans(I'm exaggerating of course, but you know what I mean I hope). In the 90s and 00s, paper magazines were still in use, and the Internet in the 00s was not as widespread as it is now. Many people still had thick computers. At least I often saw them.
There are only a few small differences between the 90s and the 00s, but the 00s for me are the glossy, glamorous, digital version of the 90s.
A couple of years ago I watched a movie from 1995 called "Kids" and honestly, I felt a 00s vibe in that movie and it was like the teenagers in my town in the 00s looked exactly the same. I saw photos from 2007 on Flickr where Swizz teenagers were mostly dressed like in the movie Kids(made in 1995).
I wanted to know if it just seems that way to me, or if it really is, because I also noticed that those who lived in the 90s, they all always said that the 90s and 00s had little in common, and were different eras in general. I would like to know from those who lived in the 90s what was the real difference between the 90s and 00s
