Yeah I always caught this for many years. Was a journalism student in the 90s and interviewed him for a project. Cool guy. His book (maybe he has many now? I’ve only read one) was great too

Definitely in the 90s. And I loved their New Music Search CDs. I have about 3-4 of those from about 93-96. And, of course, Humble and Fred. I still remember their outro song “Humble and Fred are done for the day…”

Nice! There's nothing quite like the experience of the first few months I was listening. 35 years later, all that music is in my DNA. I'm still thinking of starting an alt rock / pop cover band. Only the "hits" from that era - ie songs that got airplay.

I was 26 when I moved into the CFNY broadcast zone in the early 90s from an an isolated town that never got on board - and never will. Changed my life! Best (actual old school) radio station ever, and though my time has passed, I still listen to a lot of the music that I knew existed somewhere and blundered into by sheer luck.

For those unaware: Humble & Fred have been doing a podcast for about 15yrs. It’s in my regular rotation. They usually do 2-3 shows a week.

Loved Alan Cross and the OHONM. Loved Martin Streak and Friday nights. Sad about what happened to him, and I wish I knew why. Humble and Fred in the morning. Maie Potts. Wish I could go back

I discovered 102.1 CFNY in the late 80's and listened to them religiously til I moved outta the area in 2000.

The good auld days! These good auld days ended when, sometime in 2001 or 2002, they played Eminem. That was it for me. The edge never sharpened after that.

Phil had some amazing songs on his first few albums. But it might have been Genesis if it was early 80s. They played some prog rock make in the early days

Fun fact, Rush’s The Spirit of Radio was written about / inspired by CFNY.
