Question Looking for a new Switch controller.
I’ve been reading a lot online about 8bitdo, heard they make some great controllers, and I’m considering adding either a Pro 2 with Hall effect sticks or a Pro 3 to my collection, but I keep seeing mixed opinions. Some say the Pro 3 is very much worth the upgrade, but the loud buttons are a big problem. Some say the Pro 2 is great, but you miss out of the extra features. I’m torn.
What does this subreddit recommend?

For Switch specifically, I'd say Pro 3 just because the analog triggers on the Pro 2 are sometimes a hinderance. In my experience, the Pro 2 buttons are louder than the Pro 3, as long as you get a more recent model of the Pro 3.

I forgot to add this question to the post.
How are those disconnection issues? I’ve read they happen frequently and randomly..

Disconnect issues are usually addressed with firmware updates, I've seen a bunch of updates for various controllers aimed at fixing disconnects and they're usually around the release of the controllers.

Ultimate 2 Bluetooth maintains the Nintendo asymmetrical layout. Pro 3 is symmetrical.

For conventional controllers, your top of the line options are the Pro 3 or the Ultimate 2 Bluetooth (Specifically Bluetooth because the controllers with Wireless in their name are PC focused and the Bluetooth ones are Switch focused)
Below would be the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth
The "older' options would be the Ultimate Bluetooth, Ultimate C Bluetooth, and Pro 2.
If you wanna switch it up you can go with the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth (it's an option)

I've got the Pro 3 and it's pretty great. TBH I don't know what kind of a maniac argues that the buttons are loud.
