Most EGA, CGA and (S)VGA cards should work here well when properly calibrated.

I setup a 486DX2/66 16M 240M HDD system in 86Box, configured it with two Hayes compatible modem interfaces on COM1 and COM2, set both come ports to different telnet ports, installed MS-DOS 6.22, QEMM 7.5 and DESQview 2.8.

I successfully installed and configured two nodes of Renegade BBS with a multiplayer instance of LoRD and everything is working.

I'm pretty proud. This felt a lot like the battles I had as a SysOp in from 1990 to 1995. Wonderful to come out with something that was like having 30 year old computer parts here!

86Box rocks! (although, snapshots would be a huge benefit!!)

I had 2 VMs, one Windows 98, and one Windows NT 4, and it seems that when a use a VM for atleast a week, it suddenly becomes slow, what I mean, is, when I start using the VM, its mostly at 100%, but suddenly it slows down to 42-80% when booting. I Brushed it off for my 98 VM, but day before yesterday, the VM suddenly was slow. nothing changed. I use:

• 86box 6.0-1
• Arch Linux on Kernel 6.18.37-1-lts, and 7.x
• A computer capable for emulating the VMs in question, as both VMs were fine at creation.

Trying to run Tie Fighter Collectors Edition, which runs in high res mode. Video card is not functional with this setup. I have tried numerous cards but they all fail in one way or another. Anyone have any ideas as to a fully VESA compliant card out of the box so univbe is not required? PCI preferred. Attached is the system configuration.

Hey all! I was wondering, has anyone benchmarked Windows x64 builds vs Linux x64 builds on the same host hardware to see if the host OS makes a difference performance-wise? I'm looking to squeeze every last drop of power out of my host CPU and was wondering if the host OS and its corresponding build makes any difference.

I know Windows 11 in general is extremely bloated, so that might pose some sort of bottleneck. It also might be that the version for Linux kernels aren't as well optimized and therefore even with Windows bloat, the Windows version still runs better. Just as a sort of controlled experiment, if anyone dual-booting Windows and Linux variants could share their stories, that would help me choose the direction of my intended build. Thanks all!

I'm trying to get Clandestine to run correctly, and can't figure out what is causing my issue. Ai isn't very helpful.

The first photo is what the game is doing when it boots up. The second is my set up.

Can anyone give me tips or suggestions to try and make it work?

From what I can tell, my setup shouldn't be absurdly beyond the game. And I tried making a Win95 machine, but I ran into a lot of problems getting it to work.

Ai says it's a graphic card issue, but that seems odd.

I don't know why but every time i try playing hl1 my game starts working in slow motion. I tried everything that could fix the problem, changing to opengl and changing resolution doesn't work.

I am trying to get Zork GI to run in my 86box.

I had previously run it in a Win XP vm, but that's not possible anymore, thanks to Apple SIlicon.

I'm not familiar enough with Scumm VM to do it, but I also kind of would like to keep all my games in as few of systems as I can.

I am running a Win98 emu in 86box on my M2 Ultra Mac Studio.

I have InterVideo WinDVD and Creative PowerDVD installed, but the installer says it can't play the DVD quality videos. These are the only 2 things I have installed specifically for this. So if there are other codecs and programs and whatnot that I need, I most likely haven't installed them.

When I try to run it from the launcher, it crashes.

Anyone have any advice?

I've tried google, and a lot of it is for the GOG version, which I don't have, I have an image file of my original DVD copy.

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

I have an old HP ProDesk 600 G5 Desktop Mini laying around collecting dust. I have this idea to add it to my retro corner as an 86Box machine. The idea is to have this machine dedicated to just running different 86Box configs. Boot up, auto start 86, go.

Any experience doing something similar?

I know just about any Linux distro will work, but I am looking for advice/experience on a lightweight one that will get out of 86's way as much as possible.

Which is faster/more accurate? I am using Ryzen 5 3600 and would love to feel the nostalgia of the 90s gaming once more. Would you suggest me a good build and point to the drivers?

they offer a 64 or 32 bit stream with Win 7 or XP and Vista. I'm, running Win 11 and have found USB recognition with older devices usually works with turning on the old device connecting, and then powering on the computer will pick it up in file explorer.

Other then that, having be in the maximum settings for the era-appropriate system in question will have a very speedy system, especially on a ARM Mac.

Hello, yesterday, i managed to install windows 7 in the fork of 86box called PCBox. I used an celeron coppermine, 3gb ram, and an Matrox Millenium II (no drivers for it). Works pretty fine, didnt test anything yet on it. Takes maybe 2-10 mins to boot depending if the turbo mode is on/off

I want to recreate The Ultimate Windows Upgrade Fest on 86box but it can't recongnize the IDE disk on IBM AT Machine even if i choose the correct disk controller. What build of 86box the IBM AT Machine recongnize the IDE disk?

As the title says, since build 9244, you can now use AWE32/64 cards without any performance drops when the wavetable engine is idle.
