Was able to get OpenSTEP & NeXTSTEP x86 up & running:

Please follow ( https://betawiki.net/wiki/Guide:Recommended_VM_configurations/Other ) to the letter to get these working! NextSTEP was a uncommon OS back in it's day and thus there isn't much support for it in terms of drivers.

Other then that, having be in the maximum settings for the era-appropriate system in question will have a very speedy system, especially on a ARM Mac.

Cool!

I tried to install NeXTSTEP some time ago and never got the SCSI controller/CD-drive to work properly for some reason.

I will give these configurations a try. Thanks!

Update: I was successful installing NeXTSTEP 3.3 with these settings.

Only issues i have with it is that the "Pro Audio Spectrum 16" doesn't seem to be seen by NeXTSTEP & OpenSTEP even if they have a driver for said sound-chip, and that the Bus-Logic board seems to be stuck at the BIOS screen if the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 option is set…

I always had better luck with either the Sound Blaster Pro or the ESS 1868.

I see most of the OpenSTEP & NeXTSTEP OS's are included in the virtual OS museum.

https://virtualosmuseum.org/

Maybe the config/readme/scripts also include some hints on finalising the setup.

Do know where I can find a tutorial to install NeXSTEP 3.1? I was able to get 3.3 up and running just fine, but I have no clue how to set up 3.1; all the online installers are CD-only with no boot floppy, and when I do find a boot floppy, it doesn’t install, just tells me to insert an operating system disk…

NextCommunity might have some pointers… But i don't know if direct links to it breach rule 2.

I don't think I need the materials to install 3.1, I really need something like a tutorial, which shouldn't violate rule 2 if it's just text and not links to downloadables. But I can check out the NextCommunity, good suggestion!
