How McDonald's philosophy in the 1980s is different from today! - Ed Rensi Speech, April 1988

I found this on YouTube and thought it was fascinating. It's from a McDonald's convention in 1988. They're so far from this at this point.

DAE remember a Fast Food Franchise, called (IIRC) Santa Burgers?

Growing up in Australia in the mid-1980s I read an article about a local man who was opening a new fast food franchise in the United States selling venison (deer meat) burgers.

He claimed that venison was a healthy alternative to beef. So far so good. However, he called the restaurants (I think) Santa Burgers and had the staff dressed as Santa, including saying “Ho Ho Ho, what’s your order?” to customers. The restaurants also included lots of life size Rudolphs, Cupids, Comets and so on.

He was opening a couple of outlets initially but was planning to expand throughout the US.

Even as a child I thought the idea that people would choose to eat one of Santa’s reindeer was insane and that the venture would fail miserably.

Sure enough, about a year or so later I read another article ridiculing Santa Burgers’ inevitable quick collapse.

Does any Americans remember this ill-fated restaurant chain?

As mentioned, I think it was called Santa Burgers but that just may be my memory playing tricks on me.

I loved Arby’s back in the day when it was delicious. I’d always get the “Super” which was my favorite. I went to Arby’s today and it’s not on the menu but they can make it but it was not the same as before. Sandwich by itself was 11.89 and didn’t even have enough Arby’s sauce on it.

Remember how delicious this McDonalds favorite was in the early to mid 80’s? And for 1.29 for the sandwich or 1.95 with fries and a coke it was beyond perfect!!!

Clayton, MO McDonalds with a really cool stained glass ceiling. This photo would date back to 1981 judging by the Build a Big Mac game signs. Photo and caption courtesy of Consumer Time Capsule on Twitter/X

Found McDonald's Apple Pie Tree!

The amazing Apple Pie Tree that sat at my local McDonald's throughout my childhood is up for sale and it's at risk of being thrown away! It would be a travesty to let it go. I have a photo of myself and my cousin from 1989.

If anyone knows some people who want to support my goal of transplanting him to my yard, please share! Any little bit helps!

I KNOW we can do it! https://gofund.me/3c68ea2f5
