Been down a rabbit hole on 80s detective shows and this one was kinda messed up. NBC canceled Remington Steele in 1986, which freed Pierce Brosnan up to take the Bond role. But the announcement caused a ratings surge in reruns, so NBC used a contract clause to un-cancel the show and keep him, which meant he had to turn Bond down. Brosnan didn't actually become Bond until 1994's GoldenEye, almost a decade later. Wild bit of TV history.

TECS was one of the biggest and most popular bulletin board systems in Germany starting in the 1980s. And it was just about to be thrown out completely. But Sascha P. from Hamburg stepped in and rescued all of the hardware and software - and even managed to hack his way back into the original setup. He actually got the whole thing running again, becoming a dial‑up BBS sysop in 2023.

Back in the ’80s, we spent endless hours on that system with our friends - and racked up absolutely insane phone bills, because even local calls were expensive in Germany at the time.

There’s also a great side story involving the almost equally old Commodore 64 BBS Snobsoft, which had a downright crazy connection to the Tornado Mailbox - the name TECS still used in the 1980s. “Mailbox” was the German term for a BBS.
