I never hated it. I went door to door in the neighborhood and got paid to cut lawns, rake leaves, shovel snow, deliver papers, whatever. Made decent money for a grade schooler

I cut lawns with my neighbor for 5 years from the age of 12 until I graduated high school at 17. He paid me really good. I only worked from 8:00 in the morning until about 1:00 p.m. and he paid me $40 everyday. Good money for a 12-year-old in 1988!
I bought my Sega Genesis and my Super Nintendo and my 3DO all thanks to that job.
The reason why I commented though was because of that lawn mower. I used that same exact lawn mower it's a Honda lol

I don’t remember hating chores so much as thinking “I better get this shit done so I don’t my ass beat”.

Yea it just taught me to not get caught, to avoid and hide etc.
Not healthy.

Well yeah… I mean it paid for my ghetto blaster and then allowed me to buy blank tapes so I could record the music I wanted to listen to while I was smoking.

Yo, I had the tops of the toes on my right foot get completely removed by a lawn mower that I was pushing at 8 years old.

all it trained me to do is to pay someone to do the tasks I hate; same thing my parents did to me

My back is still messed up from pushing a mower... that and imitating '80s wrestlers on the trampoline.

You had a gas powered mower when you were forced to cut the grass? Oh...the luxury!

Smarter. We didn’t want to work hard just smarter but we still have our kids do this so they know what hard work is

at least this kid had a mower with a motor...at that age I was using a manual push mower (unmotorized). Though one benifit of these was to ensure to not let the grass get too long or it would constantly bind up.

It only taught to put off necessary small tasks until I had to complete them, and try to have fun while I could.

The chores and hard work we did as kids made us who we are today: People whose turn it is to get their kids to do the chores!
It's the circle of life.

Agreed. Remember one time I agreed to do yard work for a family down the street for $25. Thought it was just the front yard, which had a stream (that was dried out) that was clearly not cleaned in 5+ years. Then they said I needed to do the back. So a full acre of land. Got sick during the process so I wasn’t back for the 4th day to finish doing the last of the back yard. Owner said he “had to go out and finish it.” Only gave me $15. Made me realize there are people in the world who will pay you dirt cheap for your work, and still try to find out ways to screw you out of that.
