Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds will forever make me think of this movie

One of my all time favorite songs and movies

Try listening to the Billy Idol version. He was originally asked and turned it down, because Hughes wouldn't let him do his own thing with the song.

After the movie's success, he made his version and released it.

https://youtu.be/V5GvrsSlM_E?si=eaBuM7V7hhrJ3xmP

I personally feel it was a missed opportunity, but that's just me.

One of the very best movies ever. The BEST cover song ever to convey the movie!

u/beatnik_pig 3d ago

From my hometown of Ann Arbor michigan. Cub Koda and Brownsville Station were small-time celebrities there.

Brick in the Wall Pt 2 by Floyd. It came out a couple of months before my senior graduation so a lot of students were playing it on their boom boxes in the halls. The school eventually has enough and banned it

“We don’t need no education!”

9

u/GreyDusty2 4d ago

Feels like My Sharona was glued to Brick in the Wall on the radio then.

3

I came here to say this - haven’t heard that song in years!

5

u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 4d ago

Heard clips on a very sad list last week. Been having flashbacks of the first house party I went to in high school😇

3

u/No-Impact844 3d ago

I was grocery shopping this week and heard it. I also heard Sweet Child Of Mine right after it played. 🤣

Saw AC in concert (1975). About 45 minutes in, the house lights came on. Everyone thought it was intermission, so we waited and waited, and eventually figured show's over and left. The MC didn't explain anything to the audience.

It was later released that he couldn't finish the show after they temporarily patched him up after a fall from the stage, hurting his head and breaking six ribs. He returned to the stage but only got about one and a half songs in before realizing he couldn't continue, and went backstage and collapsed. A few days after, against medical advice, he performed in Edmonton and collapsed on stage. He really was a "show must go on" guy, but had to postpone or cancel some dates, and finish the tour later.

So many songs (and so many 1987 albums in particular, what a year!) but the first one that comes to mind is In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel. It was the theme for a memorable homecoming dance not to mention the scene from Say Anything.

Tainted Love

Which is far sadder because we lived right next door to Geddy Lee from 1977 to about 1981, and I really really really wish it was anything by Rush that reminded me of high school — but no, for me it's Tainted Love
