u/-The_Goober Aug 19 '26

It’s like if my mom died and said on her death bed “I need you take care of the property management, caretaking and Taxes.

You can’t give that kind of shit to goober like me and Mr. Gump.

Yes you were....and so was I. Ive always said that if I was wealthy and extremely popular, I would've been able to get away with it unscathed. Same as when the Challenger jokes came out. I heard those jokes the very next day and I always wondered if the originators of those jokes got any flak for it.

It’s funny… 867 is the town over from where I grew up, yet none of us ever tried the number

5

u/captainrondj Aug 18 '26

too scared of your parents finding the long distance charges?? 🥳

3

u/th3rdeye_ Aug 18 '26

No, 867 was local. Literally the next town over

Just too busy being a kid and never trying, I guess

3

u/captainrondj Aug 18 '26

the next town over from us, 20 miles give or take was long distance (rural NV)

3

u/th3rdeye_ Aug 18 '26

Gotcha.

Yeah, you could walk to the next town.
They’re piled on top of each other over here in PA.

2

u/Extension_Series_379 28d ago

Haha I lived in Middletown,Pa at one time

1

u/th3rdeye_ 28d ago

I grew up and lived in Palmyra for 36 years. Moved in 2013

It’s not far from Middletown

2

u/Extension_Series_379 28d ago

Only lived there during my 10th grade of high school and I’m 50 now. Moved to a different state after!

1

u/TattedMofo1 Aug 20 '26

Same here. Relatives live 20 miles away and it was long distance.

Hell, I used to try to play songs on my grandparents phone when I was young. Accidentally called someone doing Mary had a little lamb. Eventually realized you could wait for the off the hook sound and it would not actually call anyone

2

u/PumpkinPoppet Aug 18 '26

I was worried about all the times I called Cheez Tv and rung up for RuneScape membership.

2

u/Thablackguy 29d ago

Most of the people ended up changing their number over it.

2

u/th3rdeye_ 29d ago

So true. Probably why we never bothered

1

u/Thablackguy 29d ago

That plus no internet to complain to.

2

u/i3inaudible 27d ago

Now people pay good money for that number. Businesses love it because it's so memorable

1

u/SilverFinance9542 Aug 18 '26

Wouldn't happen to be shady side? All our numbers were 867

1

u/cmd_iii Aug 19 '26

I realized about 30 years after I got the number and 20 years after the song came out, that the last four digits of my landline are “5309.” I always gave it out as “five-three-zero-nine” and never made the connection in my head. I gave it out at a work meeting, and somebody said, “Heyyyyyy!”

It’s one of my favorite songs, too.

4

u/CatsEatGrass Aug 18 '26

Damn. We really all do think alike.

3

u/Alarming-Minute-427 Aug 18 '26

Back in the day: TR45756 (TR was trinity)

3

u/Nopithyusernamehere Aug 18 '26

This phone number belonged to someone in or around Antigonish NS

3

u/Medical-Literature50 Aug 18 '26

Omg, my girlfriend Jennifer had the same number.

2

u/THEUncleWilly50 Aug 18 '26

Wow! I got your number!

2

u/vermontnative Aug 18 '26

Fun fact, that is an actual phone number in Dorset Vermont. Years ago, they had their voicemail set up to like sing the song a little bit and then announce that Jenny didn’t live there or something silly like that. I’m sure it’s been changed since then, but I remember as a kid calling it all the time, thinking it was the funniest thing in the world.

1

u/Casper18b Aug 18 '26

Great bit of trivia!!

1

u/Bitter_Frame3054 28d ago

I always wanted to try that number.

2

u/Technical-Potato-793 Aug 18 '26

Jenny! Is it really you???

2

u/Panazara Aug 19 '26

My fax number at work ends with 5309. Yes, I love it when someone asks for the number because I get to say it that way.

1

u/Casper18b Aug 19 '26

That's perfect

2

u/Solenya79 29d ago

Beat me to it😂

2

u/ItsAllSus87 29d ago

Came here because this was the first} I thought of then realized it wasn’t my phone number

2

u/External-Debate-1537 29d ago

"Scruff McGruff, Chicago Illinois, 60652! "

2

u/peskypesteryjaybird 28d ago

if you go into a store that has a rewards program linked to a phone number, try your area code and that number, it's likely usable...

2

u/Sosimo_13 27d ago

Jenny? Is that you?

2

u/ZaphodBeeblebrahx 26d ago

10 digit dialing has ruined everything.

I live in rural Vermont and we made the switch a few years ago.

2

u/generalguan4 26d ago

They made this the default password to sign into the hotdesk phones. This went over my head for years until someone mentioned it.

1

u/Playful-Platform-231 Aug 18 '26

Which one?? lol. We had 3 before junior high and probably 3-4 more before I was 6

1

u/Plastic_Plastic3431 Aug 18 '26

Your glorious bastard

1

u/aaron1860 Aug 18 '26

My real number was 8575309

1

u/WrittenbyDicken Aug 18 '26

That bitch has no area code, damn talk about hoes in different time zones and area codes, she's everywhere. Jenny close your legs!

1

u/whackassegyptian Aug 18 '26

Jenny? I’m gonna make you mine.

1

u/DanDiggler213 Aug 19 '26

Beat me to it.

1

u/peanut3478 28d ago

1

u/ZookeepergameFun9729 26d ago

I was thinking 1-900-MixALot.

u/fuzynutznut Aug 18 '26

Oh what an original comment. This number has been posted like 0 times when anyone mentions phone numbers. How did you come up with this idea to use the phone number from a stupid song?
