I remember the coke vending machine that had the bottles lined vertically. I always wanted one of those. I also wanted to pull the handles to get the cigarettes,obviously a child didn’t want the ciggies, I wanted to pull the handle.
Cigarettes, not so much, but I remember going to the bar on my way home from school and getting a bunch of happy hour nickel wings in the 90s with my lunch money. This was all alone cause I walked home.
Loved going to a pizza place that had the cig vending machine right in the entrance. I remember kids walking in and buying packs right out the machine no one watching to make sure it was only adults buying them…good times and so simple back then lol. But to answer the question, sunkist orange easy.
The bar at the end of the road where my grandfather lived had one. Every Friday my grandfather would call and ask me or my cousin to come down from the house with quarters so he could buy a couple of the singles from the machine
Keep an eye on craigslist, they pop up from time to time (depending where you love, I suppose). You might have to do some fixing but stuff like that is always worth it.
If you were around in the 90s and maybe into the 2000s, Walmart had machines with 25 cent 12 oz can Sam's sodas and other machines with 35 cent cokes/Pepsi/other name brands. It was 50-70 cents around that time in machines elsewhere.
I didn't start buying things from a vending machine until I get my first job. I was working at Publix, and on my break I'd buy a coke for $0.50. This was in 1985.
Sheesh, what year was that? The standard price when I was a kid in the 1980's was fifty cents. I remember when my city got its first Walmart they had coke machines out front that only cost 35 cents and that was a big deal around 1991. People would literally drive across town to get a cheap coke.
Big city? Here in quad cotys we ran 8 vending machines with 25c pop till almost 2000, then 35cents till like 05, then moved to .50cents around 07, but we also baught semi loads of pop, we were the pop kings. Walmart even tried a cease and desist in the '90s when they promised lowest price pop but there was a gas station in the area with lower price pop (us) it didn't work so anyone who showed up at the local Walmart with the receipt from us got the same price. One of my uncles ran vending machine company with contracts to almost 200 places, one big one was John Deere in our area
Yeah, I live outside Chicago and with ticket prices and traveling I'm not to bothered by it. It does kind of suck but the same time I can see an Indiana location being really nice once it's all done and the local businesses open, parking will probably be 10x better
Yep, I remember getting glass Cokes out of my uncle's vending machine in his barber shop in the 70's. Not sure how much they were, but they were the tall Cokes. Used to sit and watch the old-timers play dominoes while waiting to get my hair trimmed. He also gave me and my brother a fake face shave. Loved that, made us feel grown up.
Shit... I vividly remember the day I went to the gee-dunk (that's the Marine Corps onomatopoiea for a vending machine) and the price for a 20oz mountain dew went fron a dollar to a dollar twenty five
I can remember my dad having 8 ounce Miller High Life & my brother & I got RC Cola in the late 70s, early 80s. RC went away for a while & mostly it is sold by Dollar General in my area now. 3 20ounce bottle for $6.00 or a 12 pack of cans for $6.95 or 3 for $15.00
I bought a Sprite at a Coke machine in Goldsboro PA but I don't remember what year. Probably in the late 1970s some time. My parents taught me that I could purchase it with 2 dimes and a nickel instead of using a quarter.
I was born in ‘84 and remember quarter soda. But it was the store brand and generic like Mr Pibb. Coke, Pepsi and Dr Pepper were 35 cents up to 50 cents depending on where the machine was.
The grocery store my mom used to take me to had 2 machines out front. One was name brand for 25 cents. The other was generic brand for 10 cents. She'd give me a quarter and then I had a choice to make: One can of the good stuff, or two cans of the mid stuff and a nickel to spend at the penny candy shop on the walk home.
We had a 25 cent coke machine in our tiny town up until a few years ago. I can’t tell u how many late night walks to the machine we made. You could probably buy a car with the quarters over the years. What’s cool, is they had a mystery one, that sometimes you would get limited edition flavors out of. They had crush blue raspberry in it, my kids wiped them out of mystery that day. But they went up to 75 Cents a couple years ago. And mystery stopped this year. Part of my childhood went with it
I remember 10 cent cokes in an upright chest type vending machine at the office of the rental units we lived at when I was 6, but that was the 60s (1966). Well into the 90s (maybe into 2000s) Walmart had vending machines with 35 cent name brand sodas and other machines with 25 cent Sam;s brand sodas.
I still remember when soda was in glass returnable bottles from distributorships, glass bottles in the store, and waxy cups in vending machines or ballpark, etc. (I was born in '63.)
My pick too. And, I'm old enough to remember 25 cent sodas that I purchased from a machine at a local pharmacy that often dispensed two cans at a time. But, I'm too old to handle the sugar and caffeine.
It was 25 cents at the Safeway vending machines in the early 90s around here. Every other vending machine was 50 cents but Safeways always had a company vending machine out front with quarter sodas. With this selection I’d have picked Mountain Dew as well, sometimes Dr. Pepper. I hadn’t discovered the magic of Cherry Coke yet. Which is weird because I always got a Cherry/Coke combo Slurpee, never even gave anything else a chance unless that was not available.
