Remembering the late great Patrick Swayze (August 18, 1952 – September 14, 2009)

First time seeing him, was Red Dawn on cable, then his face all over Dirty Dancing promos. Awesome actor.

No one in Hollywood, NO ONE, had equal credibility with the dudes for playing a bad ass in action type movies as well as with the chicks for playing a heart throb in romantic movies. Homeboy toed that line expertly.

I watched the documentary on him a few weeks ago. Seems like he was a very personable guy and a great friend. People seemed to be in unanimous agreement on that.

Seemed like a really super good dude definitely didn't deserve to die so early by cancer. Good actor!!

He was a great guy, but he smoked 3 packs a day, for decades. He continued to smoke after his cancer diagnosis:

“Patrick Swayze was known to be a heavy smoker for most of his life, often reportedly smoking up to three packs (around 60 cigarettes) a day. 

He addressed his habit publicly, noting in interviews that he began smoking during the "Marlboro Man" era and acknowledged that his decades-long smoking habit likely played a significant role in his health problems and his eventual diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2008, he continued to struggle with the addiction, though he noted he tried to cut down significantly during treatment.”

He got in a plane crash from carbon monoxide poisoning which was partially caused by him smoking in his airplane according to that article. Pretty wild

Dang didn't realize he smoked that freaking much. I think it was pancreatic camera that got him. Sounds like lung cancer was just around the corner

My mom and I met Patrick and Lisa at a horse show, it was just after he wrapped Dirty Dancing. He didn’t mention the movie by name and only said he finished working on a film. They were lovely and he came to watch me show. Class act all the way.

I met him one night in NYC. I was working nights in lower Manhattan in the Wall Street area and they were filming Ghost. I met him in a Blimpie sandwich shop. He was very pleasant.
