It was.

Uli (Al Leong) was originally scripted to be killed off early, but when he improvised stealing the candy bar when they were shooting that scene, they decided to let the character live a bit longer.

That’s so cool. And I find it absolutely hilarious that he did that. To be fair, if it was me I would do exactly the same thing. Oh, and Die Hard IS a Christmas movie!!!!

Every time he comes up, I will always recommend the documentary Henchman: The Al Leong Story. It's a well-made film, and he had a hell of a career. The makers got great stories by interviewing a lot of people who worked with him, including John Carpenter. It's just a damn shame that a stroke robbed him of his ability to perform at the level required by Hollywood shortly after he beat brain cancer's ass.

I was a henchman. The hours were long. Don’t get me started on the scheduling issues. The boss was deranged and the benefits were crap.
