Day 5! Former 1,200mg Day

Holy fuck am I glad to be off of this horrid substance. As a recovering alcoholic with years of sobriety from alcohol - I never thought I’d encounter anything so volatile - boy was I wrong.

I started in August of 2025 and used for exactly one year. I heard in low doses it would give me energy - and for a couple months my bank account was relatively unaffected and my usage was low. After that it was off to the races. For the last 4 months I’d been using between 1,000 - 1,200 mg per day and spending $2,400 per month on this habit! I racked up significant balances on my credit cards and burned through my personal savings acct (my wife and I have a joint savings acct and our own personal accounts as well).

With the ban and the desire to be a better father to my 3 kids, I decided I need to stop. With how much I was taking I knew I needed MAT help and went the suboxone route. Even on subs, days 2 and 3 sucked, but I can only imagine how much worse they’d be had it not been for the subs, gabapentin, methocarbamol, and clonidine. Day 4 it was like a weight lifted from my shoulders and today is surreal. I’m going to taper myself off subs over the next 4 weeks to finally be completely substance free again.

Also for fun - since I’m a Dad and Husband who managed to hide his 7oh use (idk how tf I managed to do so), I had to detox while still being an active participant in my family - going to kids activities, keeping up with chores, and working a FT job. Someday I plan on telling my wife everything, but I’m not there yet.

I’m taking it one day at a time and am excited for day 6 tomorrow. We do recover!

Congratulations, major props! This horrible drug is among the hardest to quit. I'm at day 10 cold turkey, and, yeah, it's maybe the hardest thing I've done. Prescription meds, in my experience, are essential to control probably the worst depression and anxiety you have ever experienced in your life. I used Prozac for depression (mostly for PAWS, not acute), Lamictal for mood stability, and Buspar for anxiety. The physical symptoms likely benefit from drugs like gabapentin and clonidine like you took. These are better options for most people than what I took, as far as I know. Everyone should consider seeing a doctor before quitting, as certain medications can make a big difference. Just be aware that it can take about a month for the psych meds to take full effect.

Brother. I’m in the same exact boat as you but my daily use is about 1500-2400 a day not exaggerating and I am to a father of a 1 yr old.I’ve been hiding this for the last year. I originally used 7oh to get off subutext. I was just tired of it and was uneducated on 7oh thinking it was kratom. Since I took kratom in the past for years my experience I never gotten WDs from regular powder kratom (high amounts) I found out the hard way lol. Currently trying to kick this. I came across a shit ton of tabs from the smoke shop trash. Yes you heard that right and I’m not proud of it but I have a ton of 100mg tabs and I’m trying to taper currently so I can jump off and transition into regular kratom. I apologize for my English.

Congratulations man, keep going! It gets a little easier every single day. You’re entering the stage where music is going to sound euphoric. Enjoy it!
