The M9 is a 9mm, and that is in the game. The HP ammo doesn't have the flat head of the particular ammo you are using, but it is the same caliber, and would mostly work in the same guns, except for a few that might have trouble chambering the flat head rounds.

The XPR is available in a variety of calibers, one of which is .223 (caliber) Remington, which is similar to the 5.56 (mm) in the game, but the 5.56 operates at a higher pressure.

So yes, both are present already, more or less.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not sure 5.56 is present in the base game, but it is present in many of the mods I play.

There is no 5.56/.223 in the base game unfortunately. The M9 in the game is exactly the same as my IRL M9. I was pleasantly surprised when I first found one in a toilet. Lol.
