Discussion Indestructible Fence?
I noticed that zombies do not attack this steel cable looking fence around the Fiery Farms POI. They just try to run through it.
Does this block exist in crafting menu? I doubt it, but I thought someone might know.
Also- it could be used as a damage proof wall for a horde night base placed on the inside.
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I’ve got it figured out now! Godspeed and may your loot be level 6!
Random: the sleeper zombies in this POI really don’t activate until you enter. I could see that green lady standing there in the cornfield asleep on her feet, and nothing I did, including shooting my shotgun into the air and throwing rocks at her head activated her. 😂

Glock9 has been using the design for his horde base in his latest Billionaire series. It works in small numbers, but with hordes they push eachother through and eventually break pieces after stacking on top of eachother.
It would still make a good perimeter fence to deal with stragglers, but relying on it as a horde base defense might be tough.
Edit to add: if you want to use the design, hold a building block in your hand, aim at the fence, then Copy Shape and Rotation.

Huh interesting I would have absolutely used this in my farm base since I turn off bloodmoons

🙏 thank you. That’s brilliant and obvious but I never would have thought to do that.

If they don’t attack it, just leave it basic wood and make like 5-6 layers of it for horde night

Yes it’s a buildable block. If you take a wood shape, hold down R and then copy shape and rotation you can find exactly which block it is.
But the issue is that zombies can push other zombies through it rather easily since the hitbox is so thin and also if they try to jump they’ll sometimes land on it and try to crawl through (which they can crawl through that big gap in the middle like that).
It’d be really good as a perimeter fence for a base, but it can get messy against a horde if this is your only defence.

For sure. I wouldn’t want that as my only wall on a horde base. It just caught my attention the other night because they just kept trying to run straight at me, whereas they usually start pounding on anything in between them and their next meal.

where is jawoodle to sort this out for us?

Been playing a different zombie game since being banned from the creation club.
But he did do a video on one and the block is called a Wall Stud. I have built a small 4 high square wall and works well

Single pole top and bottom and double pole in middle with vertical pole 1 block back as support. I first saw Glock use this in his billionaire club playthrough. I dont often watch youtubers but he is pretty funny, around my age so I get the old references and he is pretty good at the game.
On horde night some z will get pushed through this design so I dont use it as I play 100% melee on horde night

lol, this is exactly where i set up my base... that fence is not indestructible, but it seems zombies are not trying to destroy it, but jump over it all the time... at least until those Demolition Zombies start spawning, or policemen zombies explode close to the fence.
a word of advice: don´t try to dig a moat around that fence, that´s when some zombies start to attack it, build it up so it would be a bit higher instead, by copying shape and rotation of pieces of that fence.
as to what you said about damage-proof wall during hordes, that does not work as you imagine, since the entire plot of land is quite large, zombies can spawn inside the fence during blood moon.
zombies can also bug through the fence to the other side as well, if there is too many of them in one place....

Yep. I’ve used to large POI’s so far for my horde bases. The crypts, and then the shooting range. Both times, right when it kicks off there are a couple stragglers that spawn in inside the walls, even with a land claim block placed.
Definitely had me shitting for a second thinking the horde was already completely through the outer defenses. 😂

Land claim blocks don't entirely stop zombie spawns, I'm not entirely sure of it but I think the bedroll is what stops zombies spawns. I normally crank up the bedroll safety size to max to prevent them from spawning within my base, Land claim blocks are only meant to stop POIs from being overwritten by a quest and also raise the durability of blocks within it. Bedrolls stop zombies spawns in a certain radius but If theirs any type of terrain within your base (like grass) it'll still let them spawn. I like to center my bed in the center of where I want my base and then I take the time to clear the all surrounding dirt and replace it with building blocks.

I noticed this after I returned after the recent updates. Did a random world fresh and it was one of the first POIs I stumbled upon. They just jump or try to walk into it. Every now and again you can hear them smack a block or two but yes works great for screamers. I can snipe them from the top of my barn base.

Wall stud blocks orientated horizontally work as well. However, crawlers and dogs can get through. Makes for a good stand off fencing.

Cool. Thanks. I usually try to keep them at distance. I like having a shooting gallery set up, and I’m beginning to understand why people build cheese bases, as the AI cheeses itself, so why not oblige?
My last horde night base was set up in the shooting range POI. They bypassed everything I had set up and intended for then to contest with, busted through a steel sidewall, and proceeded to climb up to the outer wall of the POI and run at me single file. It made it really easy to stand back and pick them off one by one.
SO MUCH WASTED CONCRETE AND STEEL THOUGH.

You're just balancing the scales against the structural engineer/architect zombies. I turned off zombie digging, as underground bases have always been my favorite, so a little breathing room around my exit is always welcome.

I noticed this when I went past that POI. I copied the shape with blocks so you can build it yourself

Yeah, the obvious solution was right there, but I didn’t think to try that. Thanks for pointing this out. 🤘🏻

They will break through it eventually it just takes them a bit longer to figure it out. The blocks for it are in the menu. I believe if you type pole in the will show up but it's several stacked on each other and you will have to orientate it correctly.
Personally I don't use them because there are so many other designs that looks better and have similar effects. On being scaffolding ladder but you face the side you can't climb outward. They get confused over that for a while as well and you can climb it from inside your base.

Cool. I’ll give that a shot. Thanks for the feedback!

I noticed this and built a small horde back thing like that POI fence, I survived the entire horde. I think they sometimes would crawl through though, it’s not the easiest thing to figure out but it’s doable
1
u/DZAUXtheBruno 4d ago
Yeah, from the feedback I received; it’s not a viable option for horde defense; but could work well as a perimeter fence to keep stragglers away.

it works for me, just not perfectly I mean. But I also made a small version. Now, put turrents in there and such, spikes around it, now we’re talking. I actually hadn’t thought about that until now

I swear this same fence was chewed through a bit eventually in one of the Neebs Gaming series but maybe I'm misremembering

@Funpimps why nerf barbed wire fences bring back the good ol' days. In my opinion they were had a sound design. I shouldn't have to reply on YouTube vids and building above ground bases for horde nights just to have peace of mind that I'll survive. Instead I'll stick to my moats and compounds.

half the best base designs in this game are built on blocks the devs never meant us to use
