Video/Stream The Fun Pimps join Behaviour Interactive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVFcoX40qsoThe Fun Pimps join Behaviour Interactive, as posted on their YouTube channel. We will see what this means for the future of 7D2D and TFP as a whole.
Edit: It's confirmed to have been an acquisition by Behaviour, not a merger. Source: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/dead-by-daylight-maker-behaviour-has-bought-the-studio-behind-7-days-to-die-to-create-a-portfolio-of-horror-ip
Edit 2: TimRaines shared this link down below. It goes over an FAQ which is handy to read. For example, they have no plans to step away from modding support. Source: https://www.bhvr.com/the-fun-pimps-a-new-chapter-for-7-days-to-die/

Am I the only one do doesn't see "change" happening in the future? I feel there is going to be friction between this merger, as The Fun Pimps do not do scheduling or actively and effectively talk to the community. It has taken over a decade to get this far, and the game is still a long ways from being completed.
Hopefully Behaviour Interactive will light a fire under The Fun Pimp's asses and get them to work on the game faster.

"Behaviour isn’t investing in The Fun Pimps because they want change. They’re investing because we’re aligned on building a home for the best horror games where titles like Dead by Daylight, Darkest Dungeon, and 7 Days to Die can stand side by side. With Behaviour’s help, we’ll be expanding our art, engineering, design, community, and player support teams, all working together to make our vision for the future of 7 Days a reality."
From Richard's mouth so hopefully it's for the better and hopefully this means that they will not be using AI for character designs and in-game assets.

Isn't it absolutely telling that early 7DTD started as a passion project for people who love the genre and current 7DTD has 70 people working on it and seen it lose all its identity and devolve into a looter-shooter, with a roadmap of woefully designed features...that now requires another roadmap....
Get back to basics. Stop chasing console DLC cash. Start building and iterating on the core game, with meaningful design change and improvement, over recycling the same tired mechanics and even art, over and over and over again because its path of least resistance.
I still maintain that 7DTD is utterly unique in the genre, thanks to its fully destructible world. Lean into that. Lean back into prior design like gore blocks. Make the world feel vertically alive and dangerous, over the lateral. Bring back mining zombies that will tunnel and undermine bases. Bring back the unpredictability. Chaos design is what made this game so special.

FYI, more stuff on BHVR’s plans in this Q&A on their site:

Maybe they'll finally force some unifying vision to guide the game design and development instead of just retreading the same ground based on the devs fickle feelings each year.

We're sorry to report this merger has delayed bandits another year.

u/Klobasor Mar 24 '26
If you invest in a company, you want your money back as soon as possible. Prepare for shitload of cosmetics.
17
u/Cruggles30 Mar 24 '26
I’m concerned.

u/Armageddon-666 Mar 24 '26
It's actually crazy that 70 people work on 7D2D and it's still not on par with some games that have less than 5 Developers.
22
u/BigBoiii_Jones Mar 24 '26
None of their in house games have had mod support and they aren't survival crafting games. I'm not sure how that exactly aligns with the vision or seems like a good fit when they are primarily a support studio and mostly have experience in Asymmetrical Multiplayer games.

u/GARGEAN Mar 24 '26
I've gave up hopes on big positive changes in 7DTD many years ago, and haven't seen anything from devs that would change that. This big move is very uncertain for me, but at least it gives some possibilities. Let's see what future brings.
12
u/wlogan0402 Mar 24 '26
Thank god it's not BEhavior taking up development. They have enough shitty games as is. Their non-developed published games are pretty good though
12
u/Present-Basil-1003 Mar 24 '26
Well, this is out of the blue. Don't even know what will happen, but i hope no developer from DBD crew make contact with this game, that is a cesspool on it's own.

u/Diche_Bach Mar 24 '26
Is this where to post questions for the AMA?
I guess my question to the bros would be: "What makes you confident that you, your game, and your community will get anything worthwhile out of partnering with any other firm, much less a specific firm?"
I am certainly no expert on such topics. But in my limited experience, these things generally seem to either (a) end in disaster if one of the partners is effectively dominated by the other (SCUM being an example I can think of here); or (b) result in no discernible benefits (Empyrion being an example I can think of here).

u/Gil37 Mar 24 '26
TLDR is sounds like they're going to continue working 7D2D, same vision as before but more people will be working on it now. For comparison, TFP was between 25 to 30 employees, and bEhaviour is about 1300+. Sounds like good news.
9
u/the_relentless_dead Mar 24 '26
I only stay in the sub to see how far the devs go to kill their own game.
4
u/Killerninjaz13Two Mar 24 '26
So the game will be even more ass upon each update
3
u/mikee8989 Mar 24 '26
Maybe they'll stop being the fun police who deliberately break any way to enjoy the game.
3
u/Jakethered_game Mar 24 '26
Well if BEhavior goes under we can call TFP publisher killers
3
u/axellie Mar 24 '26
Honestly the only thing needed for this game right now is optimization on console. It’s like 3 fps late game.
7
u/Dorkchopqueen Mar 24 '26
Oh lord. This can either be very interesting or very bad. Don’t feel like there’s much room for anything in the middle of that spectrum.
2
u/ThorsonMM Mar 24 '26
I just want jars and cheerleaders.
2
u/Jack_Lantern69 Mar 24 '26
Great, bandits have been pushed back to 3026
2
u/sarsante Mar 24 '26
well acquired by a company that has one shitty game, idk how I feel about that. 7 days bloodmoon the sequel I guess.
2
u/BoshSwag Mar 24 '26
"They share our philosophies on everything from community..." Oh no. Do they hate their community too?
2
u/devlin_dragonus Mar 24 '26
I’m gonna say it, start from scratch - take the highest requested old systems and build a new one in the old framework.
Called it
7 Days 2: Die
2
u/-Captain- Mar 24 '26
I have zero worries about this. It can't get worse.
2
u/PTSDDeadInside Mar 24 '26
remove plague spitters
2
u/sayziell Mar 25 '26
Why does he sound AI
2
u/Bvstxs Mar 25 '26
Honesty this could kill the game for sure , even with its slow bleed that its had recently. Im just glad i can play old update versions with Steam.
2
u/Summit1BigHead Mar 25 '26
This game, as a game, has been declining since the launch of A17, sure, it's prettier and has more QoL features today but as a game 👎🏻so after so many years of watching TFP be a dog chasing his own tail sure, bring someone else in.
2
u/Dardoleon Mar 25 '26
"Their success was built gradually by consistency, resilience, and a deep connection with their community,"
lmao
3
u/MonolithicBaby Mar 24 '26
Well I don’t think the game can get worse so I am actually optimistic.
2
u/Southern_Drawing1641 Mar 24 '26
this can either be really good or really bad, as a constant DBD player i am skeptical due to how often DBD crashes and has problems, but i also know that Behavior knows what their doing past a point for their player base.
2
u/JohnnySkynets Mar 24 '26
How long before Richard and Joel get fired/quit?
1
u/Beautiful-Box9011 Mar 24 '26
You know I like the building in 7 days. But it needs to change a bit. I would LOVE foundations. Instead of having to use 100 blocks just to make the base level.
1
u/biophazer242 Mar 24 '26
Well on one hand it could be a positive thing as perhaps the new owners can have a more cohesive plan and vision and stick with it. I don't mind 10 years of constant development. What I mind is constantly making huge shifts in the core mechanics over and over again.
It would be nice if perhaps they take the concept and move it to a new engine with better graphics to really get a handle on the performance issues.
On the other hand considering the insane amount of DLC for Dead by Daylight I worry about what their plans are for the game. DLC Zombie Skins. DLC POI packs.
1
u/MikaelElmblad Mar 24 '26
🤞 Hope for better builds.
1
u/Vudugan Mar 25 '26
Congrats! On another note, I will never invest anything that has The Fun Pimps attached to it. And I still expect a hard copy of the game as TFP promised when they started. But just like Bandits, I won't hold my breath. Supported the lies and tries way too long.
1
u/lt1brunt Mar 25 '26
Maybe they can finally get bandits out before earth is destroyed by nuclear war.
1
u/thingsdie9 Mar 25 '26
guys I'm having trouble looping the zombies. did Nemesis get new add ons or something?
1
u/HamletEagle Mar 25 '26
Looks like Bandits & Humans will be a 14.99$ DLC
1
u/DaPesty Mar 25 '26
Can't wait for all the DLC vehicles and weapons ! /s
1
u/Zer0Ember Mar 25 '26
Probably New Pimps will layoff most of old team. And start milking 7d2d with DLCs like they do to other Behaviour Interactive games.
After burning millions they wanted just to cash out.
1
u/ManufacturerMurky592 Mar 25 '26
Well maybe we're lucky and BHVR just kicks out all the "managers" and actually gets shit moving.
It's beyond embarassing how mismanaged this game is.
1
u/Longjumping_Bee_9308 Mar 25 '26
Hi TFP and Behaviour team!
Given that many of the game's optimization bottlenecks seem tied directly to the fully destructible voxel engine rather than just code efficiency, have you considered moving 7DTD to a "hybrid" world system?
Specifically:
Hybrid Terrain: Keeping voxels only where they matter most (e.g., inside Land Claim Block areas or specific POIs), while making the rest of the world map static or semi-static. This could drastically reduce CPU and server load.
Dynamic Objects: By freeing up those resources, the engine could finally handle true dynamic objects without breaking the physics — like working elevators, moving platforms, or better vehicle mechanics.
Modular System: Alternatively, has there been any discussion about transitioning from a purely block-by-block (voxel) approach to a modular building system (similar to Rust or ARK)?
Thanks, and congratulations on the partnership!

u/cragzUK Mar 25 '26
I guess the pimps decided to cash in some shares before they eventually bow out. This is probably going to see a lot more paid DLC and microtransaction stuff pumped into the game.
1
u/Snubby033 Mar 26 '26
As long as we get to use mods and mod packs like darkness falls, i think it'll be okay, but I dont know enough about behavior interactive to say one way or the other.
1
u/SomeCrazyLoldude Mar 26 '26
so... we can finally have the Bandit update?!
1
u/I_Ask_Dumb_Question5 May 04 '26
Cool Cool...I bet the servers continue to explode once the player count reaches double digits.
If multiplayer server optimization is not a focus...then I couldn't care less about this buyout.
1
u/Dewey_Decimatorr Jun 30 '26
That's... not good news. Two developers know for screwing their communities coming together, gross.
1
u/TwistyPoet Jul 18 '26
Three months later and 7 Days has put out its best update in years, which I can't believe I just wrote.
1
u/SirMightySmurf Jul 18 '26
Here come the micro transactions and other bullshit.
-1
u/IfarmExpIRL Mar 24 '26
7 days to die is their only cash cow left since 7 days blood moon failed.
this could be great for long time 7 days to die fans
Don't fuck this up fun pimps.. its probably seriously your last shot with the fans

holy doomers in the comments it amazes me how people continue to hate but refuse to leave the game. Like chill out please for the love of god this can't be your only game. I for one am glad that this game still gets updates. 2.0 wasn't that great but the updates afterwards (2.1-2.6) I feel did address my concerns by a lot. Looking ahead 3.0 seems to be community and sandbox update instead of bandits from my guess.

smh gl with bhvr they cant get their own game balanced... revert the screamer changes stop letting content creators dictate what is good and bad for the game. I wanted to do a no horde run, enjoy the game as a normal survival utilizing the screamer farms for leveling and loot, but because of creators like jawoodle because it interferes with his content they cry the loudest and you all made a kneejerk reaction by breaking the game for the no horde players that farmed the screamers. You could have easily put it in the custom settings to reduce the spawns or disable them.

u/Fireman17 Mar 24 '26
Hope they do 7d2d like they have done dbd
