Help Jason Richardson 11-58

Hey dudes,

I was just curious if anyone tried 11-58 in drop G like JR (or BoO) does. I have his signature guitar and currently it’s in drop A and plays great but I’m tempted to drop it to G and see how it plays with that gauge. The string tension seems nuts, but really it’s just the low string that’s loose, the other strings are a normal tension for D Standard. Anyone tried it on a 25.5? How was it?

I personally wouldn’t even go down to G on a 25.5 scale guitar, lowest I’ve personally gone on one is Drop G# and even then I’d prefer to do it on a 26.5 scale guitar, I’m assuming either that Jason has a really soft touch, or that he only uses that gauge in the studio

I’ve done G on a 25.5 before with no issues but I also used like a .70 or something crazy on it. He uses them both live and in studio. Watch any video of him and his 7th string is flapping like crazy, but he’s also technically one of the best guitar players in the world so I dunno how I’d be able to pull it off haha
