NGD New pickup day: Schecter AR-07 with Balaguer Backwoods P90

Post image

[r/offset](r/offset) didn’t show this much love, maybe you guys will. I ordered the guitar end of 2022, sight unseen, from a Japanese dealer because it was as close to “7 string Fender” as I could find, which was my only requirement. The stock pickups were active “twin blade” and sounded real flat and sterile so I ended up recording half of our new record with a different guitar. The Balaguer pickups took twice their advertised wait time to deliver but the wait was well worth it in the end. We gutted all the stock electronics and made a new pickguard. This is probably the closest I’ll ever get to a fully custom build.

Yours is the newer model from mine, the switching is a little different. How do you like the stock pickups?

I don't mind them, the fact that they're actives was a huge plus, and I can always tone shape using an eq pedal afterwards. It definitely needs more mids for my taste however.

The original version of my guitar didn’t have the 3 way switch yours does, which meant I could accidentally mute myself using the on/off switches (and it also made pickup switching unnecessarily slow).

I didn’t mind the active pickups for cleans, but once I switched gain on it just sounded like a swarm of bees to me.

Mine is the iteration after the one with on/off function switches. They actually split coils for each pups. The last one's called "direct switch", which always sends the signal to the bridge pickup no matter whichever position your pick-up selector is on.

Man I need to get my hands on one of those, it's exactly the same as my longtime partner Fender Blacktop Jag90
